Position Summary The Apprentice Security Systems Technician is an entry-level role designed for individuals looking to build a long-term career in the security, technology, and low-voltage industry.
Apprentices work directly under the supervision of experienced technicians while learning structured cabling, surveillance systems, intrusion alarms, access control systems, safety procedures, customer service, and professional work habits.
This position provides a clearly defined training path leading to Labourer, Technician I, Technician II, Senior Technician, and Lead Technician positions.
Apprentice Supervision Requirement 100% Direct Supervision Required Apprentices are not permitted to work independently.
All work must be completed under the direct supervision of: Labourer Technician I Technician II Senior Technician Lead Technician The Apprentice is responsible and accountable for successfully completing all assigned training modules, safety certifications, and field competencies before advancing to Labourer.
Primary Responsibilities Safety & Site Responsibilities Follow all company safety policies.
Wear required PPE at all times.
Participate in daily safety meetings.
Complete Job Hazard Assessments as directed.
Follow Working at Heights requirements.
Maintain safe work habits.
Report hazards immediately.
Site Housekeeping Maintain a clean and organized worksite.
Remove garbage and debris.
Organize materials and equipment.
Assist with material staging.
Maintain professional jobsite appearance.
Leave every site cleaner than it was found.
Tool Responsibilities Clean company tools daily.
Organize tools and equipment.
Return tools to designated storage locations.
Report damaged or missing tools.
Learn proper tool handling and maintenance procedures.
Vehicle Responsibilities Maintain vehicle cleanliness.
Organize vehicle inventory.
Load and unload materials.
Assist with vehicle inspections.
Report deficiencies promptly.
Structured Cabling Support Assist senior staff with: Pulling Cat6 cable Pulling Cat6A cable Installing cable supports Labeling cables Material staging Cable pathway preparation Telecommunications room organization Security System Installation Support Assist with: Camera installation preparation Access control rough-in Alarm system rough-in Equipment mounting preparation Device labeling Material organization Warehouse & Inventory Support Receive materials.
Organize stock.
Prepare project materials.
Maintain warehouse cleanliness.
Conduct inventory counts as assigned.

Required Qualifications Education High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred Experience No industry experience required.
Experience in any of the following is considered an asset: Construction Electrical Telecommunications Security Systems Warehousing Customer Service Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Ability to climb ladders.
Ability to work on construction sites.
Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the day.
Required Certifications Must possess or be willing to obtain: Working at Heights WHMIS Aerial Lift Certification Valid Ontario Driver's License (Preferred) Quality Standards All employees are expected to follow New Age installation standards.
Zero-Tolerance Zip Tie Policy Zip ties are prohibited on all low-voltage and structured cabling installations.
Approved cable management methods include: Velcro Straps J-Hooks Basket Tray Ladder Tray Manufacturer Approved Cable Supports Failure to follow company standards may result in retraining, disciplinary action, or removal from installation duties.
