About the Role

We are seeking a Regional Operations Manager, Western Canada to lead safe, reliable, cost-effective, and high-performing operations across all plants within the assigned Western Canada region, with the head office located in Calgary, Alberta. This leadership role is accountable for translating business priorities into disciplined regional execution across production, purchasing, budgeting, health and safety, quality, customer service, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will bring a strong operations mindset, sound business judgment, and the ability to lead teams, improve performance, and deliver measurable results across multiple facilities.

Key accountabilities

  • Operational performance: Deliver regional production, quality, cost, service, and reliability targets through disciplined planning, execution, and follow-up.
  • Regional execution: Translate business objectives into clear operating plans, priorities, performance expectations, and management routines for facility leaders.
  • Financial discipline: Manage budgets, spending, resource allocation, and cost-control initiatives to improve profitability and return on operational investments.
  • People leadership: Lead, coach, and develop facility managers and operations teams to strengthen accountability, capability, engagement, performance, and succession readiness.
  • Continuous improvement: Drive Lean, Six Sigma, and operational excellence initiatives that reduce waste, improve productivity, standardize best practices, and improve facility performance.
  • Supply and customer reliability: Partner with procurement, logistics, technical services, and facility teams to ensure raw material availability, inventory discipline, efficient supply flow, and dependable customer service.
  • Quality and compliance: Ensure quality systems, product standards, testing requirements, health and safety expectations, environmental obligations, and regulatory requirements are consistently met.
  • Cross-functional leadership: Build strong working relationships with engineering, sales, logistics, technical services, finance, human resources, HSE and senior leadership to resolve issues and improve business outcomes.
  • Data-driven decision making: Use operational data, trends, and key performance indicators to identify risks, communicate performance, and recommend corrective action to senior management.

Success measures

  • Regional facilities consistently meet or exceed agreed production, service, quality, cost, and reliability targets.
  • Health, safety, environmental, and regulatory expectations are actively managed, with risks identified early and corrective actions completed in a timely manner.
  • Budgets, spending, staffing, inventory, and resource plans are managed with discipline and aligned to business priorities.
  • Facility managers demonstrate stronger ownership, clear performance expectations, improved capability, and consistent follow-through.
  • Continuous improvement initiatives produce measurable gains in productivity, efficiency, standardization, waste reduction, or customer reliability.
  • Operational risks, performance trends, and improvement opportunities are communicated clearly to senior leadership with practical recommendations and action plans.

What you bring

  • University degree in science, engineering, mathematics, technology, business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience in manufacturing, production, facility operations, or a related industrial environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, and team development.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, lead operational improvement initiatives, and use performance data to drive business results.
  • Strong working knowledge of health, safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with frontline teams, cross-functional partners, and senior leaders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project; experience using operational reporting tools is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel regularly within the assigned region.

Work environment

The successful candidate will work in both office and facility environments across Western Canada, with the head office located in Calgary, Alberta and frequent travel to plants within the assigned region. The role requires regular computer use, availability to respond to facility-related issues or emergencies, and the flexibility to support operational needs outside standard business hours. Travel is expected to be approximately 40%.

Leadership scope

All facility managers within their respective region.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an operations professional who is energized by building strong teams, improving performance, and delivering results through disciplined execution. The Regional Operations Manager will play a key role in strengthening regional consistency, advancing operational excellence, and supporting McAsphalt’s continued success as a trusted supplier of asphalt products, services, and technical solutions across Canada.

Why join us?

At McAsphalt, you will be part of a Canadian industry leader with a strong national footprint, a long-standing commitment to operational excellence, and a culture that values safety, quality, teamwork, practical innovation, and customer service. This role offers the opportunity to lead a meaningful regional operations portfolio, influence business performance, develop operational leaders, and help ensure our facilities continue to deliver reliable products, responsive service, and continuous improvement across the region.
