Job Summary: To perform general maintenance and repairs on a designated portfolio of properties and their contents which are owned and/or operated by LOFT Community Services.

What You Will Do: Responsible for maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of residential properties, including some historic sites.

Key duties include: Performing routine inspections of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, elevators, fire and security systems, pest control etc.) and reporting maintenance needs.

Completing general repairs and maintenance tasks such as painting, drywall repair, plumbing, electrical work, appliance repairs, furniture assembly, grounds keeping, and pest control.

Coordinating and overseeing contractors for larger repair projects and ensuring quality and timely completion.

Responding to tenant maintenance requests and performing basic apartment repairs.

Supporting preventative maintenance planning, property inspections, and repair budgeting.

Maintaining accurate records of inspections, repairs, work orders, and maintenance expenses.

Purchasing maintenance supplies and equipment as required.

Participating in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours property emergencies and other maintenance-related issues.

What You Bring: Strong knowledge of property maintenance and building systems, gained through a skilled trades apprenticeship AND/OR at least 3 years of experience performing maintenance and repairs in residential, multi-unit, or institutional properties.

Strong hands-on experience with general repairs, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, painting, carpentry, tiling, roofing, and appliance maintenance.

Knowledge of building safety standards and codes.

Ability to assess repair needs, estimate costs, and coordinate contractors when required.

Strong record-keeping, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Able to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and respond effectively to urgent maintenance issues.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work respectfully with staff, contractors, and individuals with diverse needs.

Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence; own vehicle and tools where applicable.

Work Environment: Required to be on-call as emergency contact for after hours and may be exposed to second hand smoke in tenant apartments.
