About the role
Join the Finance - Insurance and Securitization team, in the Analyst, analytics and reporting position, where you will leverage financial and analytical expertise to support housing affordability initiatives, contribute to key business insights, and help advance actuarial and financial knowledge within Canada’s mortgage sector. Through your analysis and collaboration, you will play an important role in supporting decision-making and fostering the growth of intellectual capital across the organization.
This is a temporary position of a duration of 12 months.
What you will do:
- Support the development, maintenance, and validation of financial and actuarial assumptions and models used to assess CMHC's financial performance and capital position for its insurance and securitization portfolio under various economic scenarios.
- Perform calculations, projections, analysis, and reporting to support key activities including financial reporting, capital, pricing, stress testing and financial condition testing.
- Assist in monitoring model performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and ensuring models and analytical tools remain accurate and reliable.
- Support the preparation of actuarial and financial analysis to meet corporate reporting requirements and respond to information requests from internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain clear documentation and support the implementation of appropriate controls and governance for models, analyses, and related processes.
- Stay current on actuarial, financial, and regulatory developments, including insurance valuation, capital adequacy, and financial reporting standards, through ongoing learning and professional development.
What you should have:
- An undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Quantitative Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of one year of related work experience in financial industry, including banks, insurance companies, pension funds, etc.
- Experience with Microsoft suite and programming and analytical tools such as SQL, Python, R, or similar technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with large datasets and draw meaningful insights.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex ideas with clarity.
- The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
It would be great if you also had:
- A progress toward a professional actuarial designation (Canadian Institutes of Actuaries, Casualty Actuarial Society, or Society of Actuaries) is considered an asset.
- A familiarity with modern data and modelling environments (e.g., Databricks, DevOps, or cloud-based tools) is an asset.
