Job description

Who Are You?

You’re an accomplished sales professional and experienced sales trainer who knows what excellent selling looks like because you’ve done it yourself and successfully taught others how to do it. With 10+ years of experience in sales, you bring credibility, practical expertise, and a proven ability to train and coach sales professionals. You understand how to build trust, uncover needs, develop strategies, navigate objections, expand existing accounts, retain clients, and close new business. Experience in digital marketing or advertising is strongly preferred, and previous sales leadership or management experience would be a significant asset.

You’re warm, patient, and genuinely invested in helping people grow, while carrying the confidence and presence needed to command a room. People feel safe learning from you, receiving feedback from you, and trying again when they get something wrong. You’re highly organized, motivated, collaborative, and comfortable introducing greater structure and intention to an evolving training function.

What's the Role?

As our Corporate Sales Trainer, you’ll lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive sales training program for every sales professional joining our company. You’ll transform our existing training approach into a structured, intentional, and repeatable minimum six-week program that prepares new team members to understand our company, the industries we serve, digital marketing, our products and services, our technology, and our sales processes.

You’ll train professionals across two distinct sales functions: Business Development Managers focused primarily on generating and closing new business, and Account Managers responsible for growing existing client portfolios through account expansion, upselling, and cross-selling while maintaining strong client relationships and retention. Your training will account for the different skills, strategies, and behaviours required to succeed in each role.

Working closely with our Learning and Development Specialist and leaders across Sales, Marketing, and Operations, you’ll create curriculum, develop training materials, facilitate classroom-style learning and workshops, and coach participants through hands-on practice and role-playing. You’ll bring extensive real-world sales experience into the classroom while remaining open to feedback and continuously improving the program based on business needs and participant outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and continuously improve a comprehensive minimum six-week in-person training program for newly hired sales professionals.

  • Create structured curriculum, facilitator guides, participant materials, workshops, exercises, assessments, and supporting resources.

  • Deliver engaging, in-person classroom training for groups of new sales professionals.

  • Develop role-specific learning paths for Business Development Managers and Account Managers.

  • Prepare Business Development Managers to prospect, build pipelines, uncover opportunities, develop strategies, navigate objections, and close new business.

  • Prepare Account Managers to strengthen client relationships, retain accounts, identify growth opportunities, and expand existing portfolios through strategic upselling and cross-selling.

  • Teach participants about our company, culture, industries, customers, products, services, and internal processes.

  • Develop and facilitate practical training in sales fundamentals, discovery, relationship building, needs analysis, solution development, marketing strategy, presentations, objection handling, negotiation, and closing.

  • Build participants’ foundational understanding of digital marketing and advertising so they can confidently develop and communicate effective client strategies.

  • Teach the technology used throughout the sales process, including Salesforce and other internal platforms.

  • Learn unfamiliar systems quickly and translate technical processes into clear, approachable training.

  • Facilitate realistic role-playing exercises, sales simulations, case studies, and practice sessions.

  • Observe participant performance and provide clear, timely, constructive, and actionable feedback.

  • Coach trainees with patience and care while maintaining clear standards and accountability.

  • Assess participants’ knowledge, skill development, confidence, and readiness to transition into their sales roles.

  • Partner closely with the Learning and Development Specialist to develop content and align the program with broader organizational learning practices.

  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Operations, and subject-matter experts to ensure training remains accurate, relevant, and connected to the realities of the role.

  • Gather feedback from trainees, leaders, and internal partners and use it to strengthen the program.

  • Establish consistent training standards, schedules, documentation, and measurement practices.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training through participant performance, leader feedback, and business outcomes.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of our evolving services, industries, systems, sales practices, and organizational priorities.

  • Be fully present in the office throughout each six-week training cohort, anticipated to run approximately four to six times per year.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 10+ years of progressive professional sales experience.

  • Significant firsthand experience carrying a sales target and managing the full sales cycle.

  • Previous experience training and coaching sales professionals is required.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating structured sales training programs.

  • Experience training sales professionals responsible for new business development, account expansion, and client retention.

  • Strong understanding of consultative selling, discovery, strategy development, relationship management, objection handling, negotiation, and closing.

  • Strong working knowledge of digital marketing and/or advertising is highly preferred.

  • Experience developing curriculum, training programs, workshops, or structured learning materials.

  • Exceptional facilitation, presentation, and public-speaking skills.

  • Confidence leading classroom-style learning, group discussions, role-playing, and hands-on workshops.

  • Ability to coach individuals with different experience levels, learning styles, and development needs.

  • Ability to provide direct and constructive feedback with warmth, clarity, and respect.

  • Strong organizational, planning, project-management, and documentation skills.

  • Ability to introduce structure, consistency, and measurable outcomes into an evolving training environment.

  • Strong technical aptitude and the ability to quickly learn and teach platforms such as Salesforce.

  • A highly collaborative approach and the ability to build trusted relationships across Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Learning and Development.

  • Openness to feedback and a commitment to continuously refining the training program.

  • Strong professional presence, credibility, patience, kindness, and emotional intelligence.

  • Ability to balance psychological safety with high expectations and accountability.

  • Previous sales leadership or sales management experience is an asset.

  • DISC certification or experience using DISC in a coaching or training environment is an asset.

  • Ability to work primarily in person and commit to full in-office availability during scheduled six-week training cohorts.

Who is POD Marketing?

POD Marketing is a full-service agency that works across marketing, consulting, and HR to help clients solve real business challenges. Behind that work is an incredible group of people. We put just as much care into supporting our team as we do our clients, creating an environment where people feel trusted, supported, and inspired to do their best work.

At POD, culture isn’t about perks (though we have those too). It’s about how you feel at work: accepted for who you are, encouraged to grow, and surrounded by people who want to see you succeed. That approach has earned us multiple awards, including recognition as one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures.

What's in it for You?

At POD Marketing, we work hard, have fun, and genuinely support each other. We believe people do their best work when they feel valued, trusted, and balanced; and we’ve built an environment that makes that possible.

You’ll enjoy four weeks of paid vacation, twelve flex days, a Passion Day to spend however you choose, and a company-wide MeMonday to prioritize mental health. We offer a thirty-day remote work policy for when you need a change of scenery, twenty-six hours of paid volunteer time each year, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, and spending accounts.

Growth and development are also a priority at POD. You’ll have access to our mentorship program, our in-house leadership development program, DiSC communication training, and ongoing learning opportunities designed to help you grow your skills and career. You’ll also have regular one-on-one check-ins, quarterly performance conversations, and a culture of continuous feedback that keeps you supported and clear on expectations.

Our downtown Calgary office is bright, modern, and stocked with good coffee, snacks, and great people. We offer discounts with local vendors and a culture that’s collaborative, energetic, and built on trust and respect.

How to Apply

At POD, we believe “that most job requirements and conceptual knowledge are easily trainable. But you can’t teach drive, ambition, or passion.” (Take a look at this article, Finding Your Unicorn, written by our President, Kevin Wilhelm). Our hiring managers consider alignment with our core values and passion for our company culture to be as valuable as experience and education.

Finding the right fit is important to us, and we put real care into reviewing applications. This is your chance to show us who you are: your voice, your attention to detail, and your excitement about joining the team. Take a few extra minutes to help us see why this opportunity is the right fit for you.

We often see strong candidates miss out because of preventable issues like missing cover letters, referencing the wrong job title or company, or submitting unedited AI-generated content. We encourage the use of AI to streamline your process, but your application should still reflect your voice and accuracy. If this role excites you, let that show in how you apply.

A few tips to stand out:

  • Submit an up-to-date resume that highlights the skills and experience we are looking for

  • Include a personalized cover letter or a video cover letter (one is required, both are not necessary)

  • If you choose to submit a video cover letter, keep it short and engaging (under 2 minutes, please!)

  • Share why this specific role excites you and how your background connects to it

  • Make sure your application is error-free (especially the basics like company name and job title)

  • Answer the application questions with intention. Your responses don't need to be long; quality over quantity matters!

  • If you use AI, review and edit so it sounds like you and is factually correct (no - passion and innovation are not our core values, no matter what ChatGPT tells you)

  • Review the posted salary range before you apply and make sure it aligns with what you’re comfortable with

Always apply through our website. We will reach out by email if you are selected for the next step. Either way, we appreciate your interest and the time you spent getting to know us.

At POD Marketing, we believe in creating an inclusive work environment, which is why we’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We consider and evaluate all qualified candidates based on their qualifications without discrimination based on race, colour, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics.
