Under the direction of the Principal, the Program Assistant works collaboratively with program staff to provide targeted support to assigned students and contribute to the overall educational environment. The Program Assistant also provides support to special needs students’ academic and social development, responds to the students’ physical, emotional and hygienic needs, acts as a team member in the program and performs other duties, as assigned by the Principal. Note: The special needs of students may include support to address academic and/or behaviour difficulties, social and/or medical problems, a physical disability, blindness or deafness, or, in the case of a special education classroom(s), students may exhibit social adjustment or communication difficulties which require extra attention. Job Description: Assist in the supervision of secondary students, reinforcing previously taught concepts and motivating students to complete daily assignments, modules, etc. Provide direct support in the kitchen as needed for students requiring one on one or small group support. Provides physical restraint, as necessary, and in accordance with the student’s safety plan and the Board’s protocol Implement time-out procedures as indicated on Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and supervise students who require temporary removal from the program setting Help formulate student goals and objectives while assisting in the implementation and modification of instructional programs as directed by the Co-op teacher Create tracking materials for the program (e.g., calendar for things such as catering; information sessions; or Co-op teacher visits) Utilize proven techniques (e.g., token systems, rewards) to encourage academic and social development Work collaboratively with Co-op teachers and other program staff to provide targeted student support and enhance the educational environment Responds to emergencies Perform lunchroom supervision duties to ensure a safety of the students Maintains log of achievement and notes supplementary observations Format and distribute the weekly program menus Actively participate in staff meetings and discussions as required Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal to support student learning Required Qualifications: 2-year diploma in relevant field such as Child and Youth Care, Developmental Services Worker or Personal Support Worker 1-year related experience working with youth between the ages of 15 and 18 Strong oral and written communication skills The ability to show initiative and to establish a rapport with adolescents Experience working with the Google Suite of applications Detail oriented and proven organizational skills In addition, the following will be considered an asset: Experience in culinary arts Familiarity with Dual Credit and Apprenticeship programs First Aid/CPR training Experience with MTEL, Hapara and D2L, Canva Compensation : This is a part-time time (0.89 FTE) permanent position with an hourly rate of $32.41 - $34.72. An employee benefits and pension package is also available. Typical hours: 7:45am - 2:30pm, 0.89 FTE Start Date : As soon as possible. This is a 10 month position that follows the school year.
