Technical Lead - Mobile

About the Role

We're looking for a Mobile Technical Lead to own the architecture, quality, and delivery of our customer-facing mobile applications (iOS and Android). You'll guide a team of mobile engineers building the tools our policyholders use to manage claims, view coverage, make payments, and get support — often in high-stakes, time-sensitive moments. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with mentorship, architectural decision-making, and close partnership with product, design, and compliance stakeholders.

What You'll Do

• Set and drive the technical vision and architecture for our mobile app(s), balancing performance, scalability, security, and maintainability
• Lead a team of mobile engineers (iOS/Android/cross-platform) through design reviews, code reviews, and technical mentorship
• Partner with Product and UX to translate business requirements — claims filing, policy management, ID cards, payments, notifications — into robust technical solutions
• Ensure the app meets insurance industry standards for data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance (e.g., PII/PHI handling, SOC 2, state insurance regulations)
• Drive engineering best practices: automated testing, crash monitoring, performance profiling, and release management
• Collaborate with backend/API teams to define contracts and ensure reliable, secure data flows
• Participate in incident response and troubleshooting for production mobile issues
• Evaluate and integrate tools for analytics, push notifications, biometric authentication, and fraud prevention
• Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and technical career development of mobile engineers

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of mobile development experience, including 2+ years in a technical lead or similar leadership capacity
• Deep expertise in native iOS (Swift) and/or Android (Kotlin) development; experience
• Strong understanding of mobile app architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, etc.), CI/CD, and automated testing strategies
• Experience building apps that handle sensitive personal or financial data, ideally in insurance, fintech, or healthcare
• Familiarity with security best practices: encryption, secure storage, authentication (biometrics, MFA), and secure API communication
• Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA) and app store submission/compliance processes
• Excellent communication skills — able to work across engineering, product, legal, and compliance teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
