Our success has been made possible by the opportunity given to us by Indigenous hosts to operate on their territory, and we cherish our continuing partnerships with these communities. The University of Toronto Scarborough is an exciting campus with unlimited potential. Join us on our journey.

Co-op and WIL give students an opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom, and to expand their knowledge through related work experience. The Department of Arts and Science Co-op is responsible for preparing over 3000 00 undergraduate students from 58 academic areas to compete for paid co-op work term opportunities. The department is also responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university co-op programming contribute to the development of well qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. With a commitment to the equity, diversity and inclusion and the campus’ ‘Inclusive Excellence’ mission, the department works closely with academic departments and support services on campus and with employer and community partners to support students as they work to achieve their academic and co-op/integrated learning aspirations.

This search aligns with the University’s commitment to strategically and proactively promote diversity among our community members (Statement on Equity, Diversity & Excellence). Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.

Your opportunity:

Under supervision of the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Team Lead, the incumbent works in close collaboration with academic units and individual faculty members on work integrated learning experiences within academic programs, develops and fosters relations with external partners who are able to provide high-quality WIL experiences for University of Toronto Scarborough students, focusing primarily on developing academically relevant non-co-op, community-based Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities.

A Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Coordinator at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) plays a key role in developing and supporting course-based work-integrated learning opportunities that enable students to apply academic knowledge and skills in real-world contexts. Guided by the University of Toronto's experiential learning classification framework, the WIL team supports two primary forms of course-based work integrated learning: Academic Internships and Organization-Partnered Projects. Academic Internships take place in community or workplace settings, where students work under the supervision of partner organizations.

Working collaboratively with instructors, academic administrators, campus partners, and external stakeholders, the WIL Coordinator supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of WIL initiatives. This includes consulting on WIL project design, helping to develop tailored solutions that align academic objectives with partner needs, and assisting faculty integrate effective work-integrated learning opportunities into their courses. The Coordinator also develops and maintains strategic partnerships that create authentic learning opportunities and reciprocal value for students, faculty, and partner organizations.

The Coordinator leads outreach and engagement efforts that raise awareness of WIL opportunities and expand access to partnership-based learning experiences. The role is closely aligned with UTSC's academic plan, equity commitments, and broader institutional priorities, helping to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds can participate in high-impact learning experiences that support career development, civic engagement, and academic success.
Collaboration is central to the role. The Coordinator works closely with colleagues across UTSC and the broader University of Toronto community to promote consistent programming, share expertise, and advance best practices in work-integrated learning. They also serve as a resource for community and industry partners, providing guidance on designing meaningful learning opportunities, supporting effective student supervision, and fostering environments that contribute to student growth and achievement of learning outcomes.

All experiences supported by the WIL team are embedded within course curricula and require students to apply their learning to authentic community or workplace challenges, produce meaningful deliverables for partner organizations, and engage in reflective learning. Through these activities, the WIL Coordinator helps bridge academic learning and real-world application, ensuring students have access to impactful work-integrated learning experiences that develop professional skills, strengthen community connections, and prepare them for future success.
