Steel Manufacturing Operator – Slitting or Assembly

Staff Plus is currently recruiting experienced Manufacturing Operators for opportunities within a steel manufacturing facility.

We are hiring for two positions: Slitting Operator and Assembly Operator. Both roles are suited to candidates with several years of hands-on industrial manufacturing experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and experience working safely around production equipment.

Previous experience in steel, aluminum, automotive, heavy equipment, or a similar industrial manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.

Slitting Operator

Pay: $25.43–$30.38/hr
Night Premium: $0.80/hr

Schedule: Continental rotating 12-hour shifts, rotating between days and nights every two weeks

• Days: 7:00 AM start
• Nights: 7:00 PM start

The Slitting Operator is responsible for setting up and operating equipment used to slit steel coils to required specifications. The position also involves material handling, work order verification, troubleshooting, quality inspection, and coordinating production flow.

What You'll Do:

• Set up and operate automatic and manual slitting equipment
• Read and follow work orders and production instructions
• Verify material and coil information for accuracy and traceability
• Troubleshoot machine and production issues
• Operate an overhead bridge crane to move and position materials
• Use measuring tools to verify product dimensions and tolerances
• Monitor product quality and identify defects
• Complete required production documentation
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area

Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of manufacturing or production experience
• Industrial manufacturing experience strongly preferred
• Counterbalance forklift certification
• Crane certification
• Basic mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
• RF scanner experience
• Ability to work rotating 12-hour day and night shifts
• Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail

Previous steel processing or slitting equipment experience is an asset. The formal Slitting requirements also include forklift and bridge crane certification, RF scanner experience, mechanical troubleshooting, and familiarity with precision measuring tools.

Assembly Operator

Pay: $23.64–$27.85/hr
Afternoon Premium: $0.45/hr

Schedule:

• Days: 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
• Afternoons: 3:00 PM–11:00 PM

The Assembly Operator assembles transformer core components using steel laminations according to drawings, work instructions, and specifications. This position requires strong mechanical ability, attention to detail, and precision when measuring and assembling components

What You'll Do:

• Assemble steel components according to drawings and work instructions
• Stack, align, and position steel laminations accurately
• Use calipers, micrometers, and rulers to verify dimensions
• Operate lifting devices, hoists, and overhead cranes
• Perform visual and dimensional quality inspections
• Identify and report defects or non-conforming material
• Complete production documentation and checklists
• Maintain tools, materials, and work areas in good condition
• Work with production, quality, material handling, and other departments as required

Requirements:

• 5–7 years of manufacturing or production experience
• Industrial manufacturing experience strongly preferred
• Forklift certification
• Overhead crane certification
• Strong mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
• Strong math and measurement skills
• Experience using calipers, micrometers, and rulers
• Ability to read drawings, blueprints, schematics, or technical documents
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Strong attention to detail and quality

Both positions are located within an industrial manufacturing environment. Candidates must be comfortable working around machinery, wearing required PPE, standing for extended periods, performing repetitive movements, bending or crouching, and lifting up to 50 lbs as required.
