Job description

Addiction and Mental Health Worker, Karen’s Place Direct Service - (OPSEU) Part-Time, Contract (End Date: March 31, 2028) This posting is the result of an upcoming vacancy London, Ontario (London Zone) - Application Deadline: September 15, 2026 - Every person in our community has the right to safe, affordable, quality housing and to live with dignity and as much independence and choice as possible. As an Addiction & Mental Health Worker at Karen’s Place (KP), you will be supporting individuals who experience addictions and/or mental health concerns to live in the community.

By providing intermittent daily supports on-site, your team will be at the ready to provide support and intervention, when clients need it most.

This approach ultimately supports tenants with meal support, grocery shopping, support around appointment reminders, and goal planning.

This program affords 5 to 6 people to live together in a shared home in the community, sharing the cooking and chore responsibilities with staff guidance and support.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING: What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service), with a wage differential, based on regulation ( $30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated): Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g.

OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour for non-regulated, and $37.26 per hour for regulated); for internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement When you'll work - 40 hours biweekly; Monday – Friday, 10am – 2pm Your pension plan –Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) What your benefits will be – 9% in lieu of benefits HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE: In-Home Support Create individualized wellness plan development with each client Coordinate services based on wellness plan and clients’ needs/preferences Connect and coordinate external services/referrals Provide opportunities and education on services that are accessible to clients internally through CMHATV (i.e.

TCM services, Community Programs, RAAM clinic etc.) Coordinate and support securing a mode of transportation to programs, services and appointments in community Provide guidance and 1:1 support for in the moment needs (i.e.

mental health/addiction challenges, activities of daily living, skill building, coping strategies etc.) Support and assist clients in activities which support the achievement of their individualized rehabilitation plans Follow-up in assisting or facilitating daily and weekly household responsibilities not completed during the day Assist and coaches in the learning and management/achievement of activities of daily living such as personal hygiene and daily chores Offer individual, one-on-one support when necessary Address and resolve any nightly issues as per organization policy and procedure manual when possible Photocopy all documents, forms etc.

which require replenishment, clean office weekly Make decisions with team concerning operations of the program and policies of the organization Ensure effective communication with Director, Manager, fellow staff and external treatment teams concerning client’s progress. Identify and promote conflict resolution, and inform management of all emergency situations concerning clients, staff, and property Maintain a safe living environment for clients; including following the fire plan and conducting room checks as needed Collaborate with other staff in developing and facilitating therapeutic or educational group programming Transition & Housing Support Provide regular connection and focus on housing and transition to long term permeant housing Development of a Housing Plan to guide needs and preferences of clients Coordinate and offer of regular housing lists Connection and relationship building with prospective landlords/property managers Development of a transition plan to identify needs and supports when graduating from the program.

Development of a follow up plan after leaving Karen’s Place Supporting Karen’s Place Volunteers: Selection and recruitment of volunteers into program with assistance from CMHA leadership Coordinate schedule and program development for volunteers (i.e.

monthly program calendar) Communicate monthly volunteer program calendar with clients, director and CMHA leadership Provide guidance and direction to volunteers Support with training and education of volunteers.

  • WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY: Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months.

Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 5 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

Karen's Place is an environment solely for women and gender-diverse communities and therefore, it is a bona fide occupational requirement that the successful candidate identify as a woman, two-spirited, non-binary, transgender, or otherwise gender-diverse College Diploma or University Degree in the social science field (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e.

original degree/diploma or official transcript) Minimum one year of work experience in the mental health or addictions field Valid Driver’s License: G class required Access to a vehicle required for personal transportation Transportation of clients in personal vehicle required; two million-dollar ($2 000 000.00) liability insurance required Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly We prefer the following qualifications: Current certification in First Aid & CPR ASIST Experience working in a residential supportive housing environment preferred Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation, psychiatric medications, community resources, computerized documentation methods, health & safety, safe food handling practices Crisis intervention and prevention Bilingual in both official languages, preferred ; Une préférence sera accordée aux personnes possédant des compétences dans les deux langues officielles du Canada INTERNAL APPLICANTS: To be considered as an internal applicant, current staff members are reminded to apply using their @cmhatv.ca or @slwar.ca email address.
