The Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant & Analyst for Akash Homes, based in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Opportunity

At Akash Homes, accounting is more than reporting the numbers. It’s about creating financial clarity, strengthening processes, and building the systems that allow a growing organization to make informed decisions.

As Financial Accountant & Analyst, you’ll work closely with the Controller and CFO and take ownership of key corporate accounting processes across the Akash Homes Group of Companies. You’ll support month end and year end reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash management, reconciliations, financial analysis, and the continued development of strong accounting processes and internal controls.

This role also provides the opportunity to work across multiple companies, financial institutions, departments, and systems while supporting and mentoring members of the accounting team.

Top 3 Priorities for Your First 6 Months

Develop a strong understanding of the Akash Homes Group of Companies. Become familiar with the various entities operating under the Akash umbrella and develop the ability to independently analyze and record transactions, including intercompany activity, and reconcile intercompany accounts.Develop a strong understanding of Akash Homes’ banking relationships and cash management processes. Become familiar with our relationships across multiple financial institutions and develop the ability to independently analyze and record banking transactions, monitor cash levels and financial covenants, and complete weekly cash forecasting.Build a strong understanding of Akash Homes’ accounting policies and procedures. Become familiar with the accounting policies, processes, and internal controls across the Akash Homes Group of Companies and be prepared to contribute to their continued improvement and documentation.

What You’ll Own

Support and complete month end and year end close processesPrepare, review, and analyze financial statements and supporting schedulesSupport budgeting, financial modelling, and forecasting activitiesComplete financial analysis and reporting to support business decision makingPerform job costing, variance analysis, account reconciliations, divisional analysis, and financial reviewsRecord and reconcile intercompany transactionsMonitor and reconcile intercompany accounts across the Akash Homes Group of CompaniesSupport cash flow management and complete weekly cash forecastingUnderstand banking agreements to support lender draw requestsMonitor cash levels and financial covenant requirementsAnalyze and record transactions related to Akash Homes’ banking relationshipsSupport accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as requiredCreate, strengthen, and document accounting policies, procedures, processes, and internal controlsIdentify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability within accounting processesSupport accounting and ERP system improvements and integrations, including HomeFront, Sage, SharePoint, and related platformsCollaborate with teams across the organization to improve financial processes and strengthen financial informationProvide mentorship, guidance, and support to junior members of the accounting teamSupport audit preparation and other financial review requirementsAssist with additional accounting and finance initiatives as the organization continues to growMaintain financial models and forecasts including inputsSupport revenue forecast, budgets and actualsPrepare quarterly, annual, monthly reporting results to leadershipMonitor key ratios and KPI’sPrepare analytic reporting on key areas of the business

What You’ll Bring

CPA designation or active progress toward a CPA designation, combined with relevant accounting experienceExperience in a Financial Accountant & Analyst or similar accounting roleStrong understanding of month end and year end close processesExperience preparing and analyzing financial statements and reconciliationsExperience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysisStrong understanding of intercompany accounting and reconciliationsStrong analytical and problem solving skillsAdvanced working knowledge of Microsoft ExcelExperience with Sage, HomeFront, or similar accounting and ERP systemsStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesProfessional communication skills and the ability to work effectively across departmentsA proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvementAbility to adapt and contribute within a fast paced, growing organizationInterest in supporting, mentoring, and developing other members of the accounting team

We’re less concerned about checking every box and more interested in your ability to contribute, learn, and grow with the business. That said, the following would be considered assets:

Experience within residential homebuilding, construction, or a related industryExperience working within a group of related companies or a multi entity environmentExperience supporting audit preparation or year-end financial reportingExperience improving or documenting accounting policies, procedures, and internal controlsExperience supporting ERP implementations, integrations, or accounting system improvements
