Job Overview

Reporting to the Team Manager, Paralegal, the Paralegal is responsible for managing a portfolio of mainly charged-off consumer accounts through all stages of the legal collection lifecycle. This includes negotiating payment arrangements, preparing and filing Small Claims Court actions, obtaining judgments, conducting post-judgment enforcement activities, and identifying opportunities to resolve accounts prior to legal action. The successful candidate will combine legal knowledge, collections expertise, negotiation skills, and investigative techniques to maximize recoveries while delivering a professional and compliant customer experience.

What will you be doing?

  • Demonstrate compassion, professionalism, and empathy by understanding customers' financial circumstances and working collaboratively to identify appropriate repayment solutions.
  • Manage a portfolio of mostly charged-off consumer accounts throughout all stages of the legal collections lifecycle, from pre-litigation negotiations through post-judgment recovery activities.
  • Review accounts and determine the most effective recovery strategy, including settlement opportunities, payment arrangements, litigation, or judgment enforcement.
  • Draft, prepare, file, and manage Small Claims Court pleadings, motions, affidavits, garnishments, examinations, and other legal documents with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Monitor court timelines and legal milestones to ensure compliance with procedural requirements and timely progression of files through the legal process.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements, settlements, and voluntary repayment solutions with customers to maximize recoveries while avoiding unnecessary legal escalation.
  • Conduct detailed financial discussions with customers to identify income sources, assets, employment information, and repayment capacity.
  • Develop and execute post-judgment recovery strategies, including judgment debtor examinations, garnishments, writs, and other enforcement remedies where permitted.
  • Perform skip tracing and investigative activities using internal systems, public records, and third-party resources to locate customers, employers, assets, and recovery opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive file documentation, ensuring all collection, legal, and enforcement activities are recorded in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Attend court appearances, settlement conferences, motions, examinations, and trials as required.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve recovery performance, reduce legal cycle times, and enhance operational efficiencies within the legal collections process.
  • Consistently achieve or exceed recovery, productivity, quality, and compliance objectives established for the legal collections program.

What experience do you have?

  • Paralegal Diploma or Certificate, Licensed with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Accreditation in good standings
  • Professional Liability Insurance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional proficiency in French is an asset
  • Knowledge of the Rules of the Small Claims Court and Small Claims Debt Collections
  • Relevant working experience is an asset but not required
  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to adapt to company systems
  • Comfortable working independently and in a team environment
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to consistently meet or exceed monthly targets.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle for court appearances (mileage reimbursed)
  • Fulltime availability (40 hours/week) and ability to work in our head office in Pickering, ON

Additional Requirements for Internal Candidates:

  • Must have been in your current role for 9 months.
  • Have the endorsement / support of your current manager.
  • Must not be currently under corrective action or within 6 months of any previous corrective action.
  • Must be achieving or exceeding the required level of individual performance in your current role.

We are offering $42,400.00 - $50,000.00/year CAD for this role, plus the opportunity to earn monthly bonuses.

We’re committed to attracting and rewarding top talent. Our compensation ranges are thoughtfully designed to reflect market competitiveness, internal equity, and the experience and impact each candidate brings to the role.

At goeasy, we believe transparency fosters trust — and that rewarding performance with fair, competitive pay and meaningful growth opportunities is key to our success.

Should your total compensation expectations fall above the posted range, we still encourage you to apply. If selected for an interview, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss this with our recruitment team, as there may be flexibility based on your background and overall fit.

This posting is for an existing vacancy within our team.
