QC Packaging Technician

Role Purpose:

The QC Packaging Technician supports Quality Control activities by inspecting, measuring and testing primary, secondary and tertiary packaging components used for cosmetic and personal care products. Under the direction of the QC/QA Manager or a qualified designate, the incumbent verifies conformance to approved specifications, drawings, standards, test methods and samples; accurately records results; and promptly reports discrepancies to support product quality, packaging functionality and regulatory compliance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Receives, identifies, samples and prepares packaging components in accordance with approved procedures and sampling plans.

· Performs visual, dimensional and functional testing of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging against approved specifications, drawings, test methods and samples.

· Conducts assigned tests, including appearance, artwork, dimensions, fit, capacity, leakage, torque, dispensing, adhesion, scuff, drop and compatibility checks.

· Supports incoming inspection, line trials, first-off approvals, in-process checks and finished-product packaging evaluations.

· Compares results with acceptance criteria and promptly escalates defects, atypical results and non-conforming materials; releases or rejects materials only when formally authorized.

· Completes test records, reports and equipment logs accurately in accordance with Good Documentation Practices and data-integrity requirements.

· Supports non-conformance, deviation and laboratory investigations by providing test data, samples and factual observations.

· Maintains packaging standards, retained samples, laboratory equipment and the work area in an identified, orderly and safe condition.

· Operates equipment only after training, performs required checks and reports damage, calibration concerns or abnormal operation.

· Collaborates with Quality, Packaging Development, Production, Warehouse and Procurement on packaging samples, specifications and testing requirements.

· Follows applicable SOPs, cosmetic GMP, laboratory, safety, regulatory and customer requirements, and performs other trained duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

· College diploma or certificate in packaging technology, quality, laboratory science, engineering technology, manufacturing, materials science or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

· Up to two years of experience in packaging inspection, quality control, manufacturing or a laboratory environment is preferred; cosmetic, personal care, pharmaceutical, food or other regulated manufacturing experience is an asset.

· Basic knowledge of packaging components, common defects, measurement techniques and specification-based inspection is preferred.

· Ability to read and follow specifications, technical drawings, approved samples, SOPs, test methods and written work instructions.

· Basic experience with measuring or test equipment such as callipers, micrometres, balances, torque testers, compression or force gauges, leak-testing devices and colour-assessment tools is an asset.

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to enter data accurately and maintain organized electronic records.

· Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, organization and time-management skills.

· Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to escalate concerns promptly and objectively.

· Ability to work independently on trained tasks, follow supervision and collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team.

· Demonstrated commitment to safety, Good Documentation Practices, data integrity and compliance with established procedures.
