UNICEF Canada currently operates under a Fixed-Hybrid model that requires team members to attend the office at least 2 days/week (Tuesday/Wednesday)

The Opportunity

The Analytics Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization's data and analytics capabilities and helping embed data-driven decision making across fundraising and business teams. This senior individual contributor is responsible for translating business questions into analytical opportunities, partnering closely with fundraising leaders to understand their priorities, and developing actionable insights and data & analytics products that improve donor retention, fundraising effectiveness, investment decisions, and donor experience.

The role is designed to help evolve the organization towards a more mature analytics function that proactively identifies opportunities, measures outcomes, and informs strategic decision-making.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Build Organizational Analytics Capability (20%)

Working directly with the Director, Data & Insights, advance the organization's analytics maturity and establish scalable approaches for generating business value from data

  • Help define and implement an enterprise analytics roadmap that aligns with fundraising and organizational priorities.
  • Establish repeatable analytical frameworks, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Support the transition from operational reporting toward diagnostic, predictive, and insight-driven analytics.
  • Promote adoption of common performance measures and analytical standards across fundraising teams.
  • Improve organizational understanding of donor behavior, donor value, and fundraising performance drivers.
  • Champion evidence-based decision-making and a culture of continuous learning.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and modernization of analytical processes through artificial intelligence (AI)

2. Strategic Business Partnership (15%)

Serve as a trusted analytics advisor to fundraising leaders and business teams, helping translate business challenges into analytical opportunities.

  • Build strong relationships with fundraising leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate discovery conversations to understand goals, challenges, priorities, and information needs.
  • Recommend analytical solutions that support fundraising effectiveness and donor engagement objectives.
  • Support annual planning and prioritization discussions by bringing evidence and analytical insight to decision-making.

3. Donor Portfolio Analytics and Insights (35%)

Lead exploratory and deep-dive analyses that generate actionable insights into donor behavior and fundraising performance.

  • Conduct portfolio analysis to identify retention, upgrade, reactivation, cross-sell, and acquisition opportunities.
  • Perform cohort analysis, lifecycle analysis, and donor journey analysis to improve donor experience, and identify opportunities to strengthen donor loyalty and lifetime value.
  • Enrich and develop donor profiles and segmentation that help fundraising teams better understand supporters.
  • Support fundraising teams on investment decisions and resource allocation.
  • Promote and support measurable test and learn initiatives

4. Data and Insight Modernization (10%)

Support efforts to improve the accessibility, quality, and usability of data across the organization.

  • Contribute to initiatives involving CRM evolution, data architecture improvement, reporting modernization, analytics and AI enablement.
  • Assist in developing business definitions, data dictionaries, and performance metrics.
  • Support efforts to improve trust and confidence in organizational data.

5. Data Enablement, Integration & Automation (20%)

Support the organization's analytics, donor insights, and fundraising strategy by designing and implementing data integration, automation, and data enablement solutions that improve access to trusted, timely, and actionable information.

  • Design, develop, and maintain data integration, automation, and ETL/ELT solutions that enable reliable movement of supporter, fundraising, engagement, and operational data across platforms.
  • Partner with business, fundraising, analytics, and technical stakeholders to translate data and operational needs into scalable integration and data enablement solutions.
  • Improve data quality, consistency, availability, and usability through validation, testing, documentation, data lineage, and sustainable operating procedures.
  • Support donor experience, reporting, CRM, fundraising technology, and data warehouse modernization initiatives by providing integration expertise and reducing manual effort through improved automation and workflow design.

Qualifications

Required

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in customer/fundraising analytics, business intelligence, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience translating business needs into analytical solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and business partnership skills.
  • Experience presenting analytical findings to senior leaders and non-technical audiences.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in data integration development and ETL/ELT pipeline design, using platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server and associated tooling, including SSIS and stored procedures.
  • Advanced SQL expertise, including query optimization, performance tuning, stored procedure development, and troubleshooting.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modelling, and integration best practices.
  • Experience with version control and source code management tools (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).Familiarity with data privacy principles and secure data handling practices, particularly in environments managing personal or financial data. (i.e. CRM)

Preferred / Assets

  • Experience in the not-for-profit or fundraising sector.
  • Hands-on experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge (or equivalent CRM).
  • Experience with online fundraising platforms, particularly Engaging Networks.
  • Experience with ImportOmatic or similar fundraising data integration tools.
  • Experience with Salesforce environments and data integration patterns.
  • Experience with Azure platform services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, or Azure Blob Storage.
  • Familiarity with Power BI or similar BI tools as a downstream consumer of integration pipelines.
  • Exposure to Agile or iterative delivery practices.
