Salary: $90,000 - 110,000 per year
Requirements:
- We are looking for someone with five or more years of experience building and owning data layers, with strong SQL Server expertise, including complex T-SQL, stored procedures, dynamic SQL, and indexed or materialized views.
- We want proven performance tuning ability, including execution plan analysis and index design for large datasets.
- We need sound schema design judgment for transactional and reporting environments, including knowing when to normalize and when a different structure is more appropriate.
- We value comfort working with JSON and other semi-structured data in SQL Server, which we use heavily in reporting and load processes.
- We are seeking experience building ETL or ELT pipelines that support incremental loads, corrected records, and failure recovery without manual intervention.
- We want someone who can take ambiguous requirements and shape them into accurate, testable, maintainable solutions.
- We expect confident, practical use of AI in day-to-day work, along with an interest in building reusable AI skills and tooling that help the team work faster.
- Nice-to-have experience includes .NET service and API development, EF Core, multi-tenant or cross-organization aggregation, peer grouping, comparative analytics, and healthcare data such as CIHI DAD and NACRS, case mix, or hospital decision support.
Responsibilities:
- We will have you own our data layer, including schemas, stored procedures, reporting abstractions, and the pipelines that ingest hospital EMR data from Meditech, Cerner, and soon Epic.
- You will design and build the data model and aggregation layer behind our new benchmarking platform, including peer grouping and cross-organization comparison.
- You will handle schema design and complex T-SQL across DQA and our reporting framework.
- You will develop EMR integrations, including source-to-target mapping and extraction pipelines from hospital reporting databases.
- You will improve performance across large hospital datasets, from execution plans to index strategy on read-heavy reporting workloads.
- You will lead our transition to tool-based database version control and repeatable deployments.
- You will translate CIHI DAD and NACRS specifications, along with hospital business rules, into SQL that must be exact.
- You will also work in the .NET services and APIs that sit on top of the database layer.
- You will collaborate closely with coding and decision support professionals in hospitals and work alongside our Engineering Lead, two Senior Software Developers, our Senior Product Manager, and our QA and client teams.

More:
We are 3terra, a team of ten building software that helps Ontario hospitals recover funding they are entitled to by improving how care is coded and reported. Our Data Quality Assist platform is already used by roughly 50 community hospitals, and we are now creating a new multi-tenant datastore so hospitals can benchmark performance against peer organizations using outcome, quality-based procedure, and emergency department metrics. The product is currently at prototype and design stage, and we are looking for someone to design and build the underlying data model. We offer a permanent full-time role with a hybrid work arrangement in Mississauga, Ontario, with office days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and remote work on Wednesday and Friday. Our stack includes SQL Server, Oracle for the Cerner integration side, .NET services, Vue.js owned by other team members, Redgate SQL Source Control and SQL Compare, GitHub, Jira, Azure DevOps, and GitHub Actions. We provide extended health care, dental care, disability insurance, paid time off, flexible scheduling, work from home, on-site parking, annual performance bonus, profit sharing, mileage reimbursement, vision care, casual dress, and three weeks of vacation. We are committed to an inclusive, respectful, barrier-free workplace and welcome qualified candidates to apply.
