Job description

Location: Guelph, Ontario – Onsite Company: Original Composites & Fiberglass Pay Range: $73,000 - $117,000 ABOUT US Join Original Composites & Fiberglass, a leading global provider of solutions for the growing composites industry as we build on more than 85 years of material innovation.

Our 4,000 employees across 12 countries share a commitment to redefining what is possible for our customers in energy, transportation, infrastructure, defense, and consumer goods. Guided by our core values of Passion, Ownership, and Team Spirit, the Guelph plant produces glass fiber reinforcements including Wet Use Chopped Strands [WUCS] and Continuous Filament Mat [CFM] in the heart of the city since 1951.

  • POSITION SUMMARY We have an immediate opening for the Manufacturing Process Engineer, who partners with the local manufacturing team accountable for the safe, stable, and productive performance of tightly integrated and technically complex glass fiber production processes.

This is a broad, hands-on role encompassing safety, quality, and production for someone who is energized by taking the initiative to solve challenging manufacturing problems and carefully follows issues from root-cause through to sustainable improvement.

  • Working alongside a small team of experienced Process Owners with technical responsibility for manufacturing, the initial assignment will focus on glass fiber forming performance and progressive ownership of plant quality systems.

The incumbent will help maintain and promote effective operating standards, follow structured problem solving, and use data-driven decision-making to reduce production variation, and eliminate losses in a high-speed and high-temperature molten glass fiber attenuation process.

Occasional travel to other sites or customers may be required. Success in this role will come from exercising sound judgement, impactful implementation of practical solutions, and the ability to build relationships through coaching, clarifying expectations, and ultimately enabling the people closest to the process to solve problems autonomously.

As capability and experience grow, you will learn adjacent portfolios including glass melting, production, and maintenance, creating potential paths into plant leadership roles or network-level subject-matter expertise.

  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Live our safety and sustainability values Demonstrate a visible commitment to employee health, safety, and our environment by identifying hazards, reducing risk, supporting zero-loss performance, and applying legislative and company requirements in day-to-day process decisions.

  • 2.

Lead fiber forming process improvement through hands-on, cross-functional execution Drive optimization in the glass fiber forming process by leading and participating in structured, data-driven problem solving and focused improvement work to reduce variation, eliminate losses, and maximize efficiency Build team capability by working directly with operators, maintenance, production leadership, and technical peers to troubleshoot abnormalities and apply effective manufacturing standards, strengthen shop-floor problem solving, and develop the skills needed for autonomous process operation.

Maintain advanced machine vision systems and online gauging (nuclear and infrared) in coordination with area process owners to support reliable measurement, control, and decision-making 3.

Own Quality System processes and their effective use Coordinate Management System activity, supporting plant leadership to ensure ISO standards are applied through clear procedures, audits, and corrective action programs, and systemic risks are addressed by process owners.

Manage quality and performance data systems and equipment used by operators and process owners to perform quality checks and demonstrate conformance to customer requirements Support production Process Owners in improving quality performance and customer satisfaction by participating in responses to process abnormalities and customer concerns, including investigation, root-cause and/or experimental analysis, and preventive action plans Oversee plant quality lab activities, including periodic sampling and testing of raw materials, finished products, and customer samples QUALIFICATIONS University degree in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.

Manufacturing experience in a fast-paced production environment (minimum of 2 years).

Direct responsibility for process performance, equipment improvement, product quality, or operational troubleshooting are assets.

Experience making sound judgments is required, with the ability to confidently support a 365/24/7 unionized manufacturing site where priorities can shift on a regular basis Proven ability to lead through influence, communicate clearly with operators, trades, technical peers, and business leaders, and implement change in a way that builds ownership and capability at the operating level.

Experience analyzing process data and following structured problem solving and root-cause methods to reduce variation and prevent repeat issues.

Demonstrated experience with ISO-based quality management systems, internal audits, corrective action processes, laboratory oversight, or quality data systems (SAP, SQL) is an asset.

May require travel. Must have no legal restrictions to travel between US, Canada and Mexico.

Valid Passport eligibility is mandatory PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Principled and standards-driven — consistently upholds safety, quality, and process expectations, respectfully challenging gaps and following through on details until standards are understood, accepted, and sustained.

Analytical and improvement-minded — Uses data, observations, and follows structured problem solving to understand root-causes, reduce variation, prevent recurrence, and own process performance.

Hands-on and practical — Engages directly with operators, equipment, data, and plant-floor problems, applying sound technical judgment to deliver real manufacturing solutions.

Collaborative and resilient — Builds productive relationships with operators, maintenance, production leadership, and technical peers using clear communication and coaching to help others strengthen troubleshooting and ownership, learning and adapting when conditions are difficult or ambiguous.

Business-minded and growth-oriented — Connects technical decisions to business impact, prioritizes work based on risk and value, and demonstrates the initiative, sound judgement, credibility, and leadership potential to take on broader responsibility over time.
