Telecommunications Technician $36 - $48 per hour - Calgary or Spruce Grove, AB

If so, we’d love to hear from you! Our client, a nationwide leader in telecommunications infrastructure, is looking for a skilled Technician based out of Spruce Grove or Calgary, AB. This role is ideal for a proactive technical specialist who can seamlessly bridge the gap between design engineering, RFP responses, and hands-on field deployment.

As a Technician, you will report directly to the Project Manager and oversee the complete installation of specialized telecom equipment across various locations throughout the province.

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Location: Spruce Grove or Calgary, AB (Provincial travel required)
Schedule: Full-time hours with shift flexibility (days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as project needs dictate)
Environment: Field & Indoor Telecommunications / Outdoor Weather Exposures
Wage: $36 - $48 per hour - based on experience (weekly pay)

Travel Allowance: ~$200/day LOA (Living Out Allowance) provided while traveling on the road.

Responsibilities
Design & Proposals: Assist with wireless design proposals, microwave/mobile/cellular design, bill of materials (BOM), scope of work (SOW), and technical RFP/RFQ responses.

Network Documentation: Produce network schematics, detailed site design documentation, and layout drawings for complex telecommunications projects.

Equipment Installation: Oversee and complete the installation of specialized telecom equipment independently in various provincial field locations.

System Testing: Perform field measurement and testing using specialized equipment, including OTDR and Fusion Splicers.

Project Execution: Apply strong time management and problem-solving skills to keep project deliverables on schedule and within technical specifications.

Team Alignment: Maintain professional working relationships with co-workers and clients while adhering to all company safety protocols.

Qualifications
Certification & Education: Technologist Diploma, relevant military training, or provincial certification (e.g., ASET, ASTTBC).

Technical Experience: Minimum 2 years of direct experience in wireless environments/technology with strong knowledge of fiber optics and related systems.

Equipment & Testing Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to perform fiber testing with OTDR and Fusion Splicers; familiarity with microwave, SCADA, or GE MDS wireless products is a major asset.

Technical Literacy: Proven capability to interpret complex wiring diagrams, network schematics, layout drawings, and system requirements.

Physical & Travel Requirements: Valid Canadian Driver’s License, mechanically inclined, and physically capable of heavy lifting, climbing ladders/poles, and working in confined spaces/outdoor weather.

Additional Requirements: Clean criminal record, legal authorization to work in Canada, and willingness to work flexible shifts and travel off-site as needed.
