About the role

As the Business Improvement Lead, you will play a key, hands-on leadership role in advancing the Bank’s Unclaimed Properties Office’s (UPO) modernization roadmap. Reporting to the Director, Unclaimed Properties Office, you will help drive the implementation of Lean Review recommendations and support modernization, automation, process improvement, and operational excellence initiatives that strengthen UPO’s effectiveness, scalability, and readiness for future growth.

You will work closely with the Project Manager, business leaders, subject matter experts, corporate partners, and vendors to translate opportunities for improvement into practical solutions that deliver measurable and sustainable business outcomes. You will also act as a catalyst for innovation by identifying opportunities to leverage AI, automation, data, and digital tools to improve service delivery, reduce manual effort, and enhance the client experience.

What you will do

In this role, you will lead and support initiatives that improve how UPO works, delivers services, makes decisions, and prepares for future growth. You will help move ideas from concept to implementation while ensuring improvements are practical, sustainable, and aligned with strategic priorities.

More specifically, you will:

  • Lead the implementation of priority Lean Review recommendations and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Assess current-state processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, governance, service delivery, and operational outcomes.
  • Apply Lean and continuous improvement methodologies to eliminate waste, reduce rework, simplify processes, and improve the way work gets done.
  • Support the develop of future-state process designs, process maps, workflow documentation, standard operating procedures, tools, templates, and guidance materials.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage automation, AI, and digital solutions, and develop business cases, requirements, pilots, and implementation recommendations.
  • Work with Privacy, Legal, Risk, Data and Digital Services, Information Technology Services, and other enabling functions to assess operational and implementation considerations, identify potential considerations, and develop practical solutions that support successful implementation.
  • Support the development of dashboards, reporting requirements, performance measures, and data-informed recommendations.
  • Facilitate workshops, working sessions, and stakeholder consultations to support solution design, implementation planning, and business readiness.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, innovation, and operational excellence.

What you need to succeed

You are an experienced business improvement professional who has successfully led process improvement, operational excellence, business transformation, or continuous improvement initiatives. You bring a strong understanding of Lean, continuous improvement, operational excellence, business process improvement, or similar methodologies, and you know how to apply them in a practical way to improve how work gets done.

You are skilled at assessing current-state processes, identifying root causes, mapping workflows, designing future-state solutions, and developing recommendations that are clear, actionable, and aligned with business priorities. You can translate analysis into practical implementation plans, business requirements, briefing materials, and executive-level advice that support sound decision making.

You are also a strong communicator and facilitator who can build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders and partner groups. You are comfortable influencing outcomes without direct authority, managing multiple priorities, and working through complexity to deliver meaningful and sustainable business improvements.

Nice to have

  • Experience implementing Lean Review, operational assessment, or modernization recommendations.
  • Experience identifying and implementing automation opportunities, including AI-enabled productivity and automation tools.
  • Experience developing performance measurement frameworks, operational dashboards, and management reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of data governance, reporting practices, and data-informed decision making.
  • A Lean, Six Sigma, Business Analysis, Change Management, or Continuous Improvement certification.
  • Experience working in a regulatory, operational, financial services, or public-sector environment.

Your education and experience

This position requires a university degree in business administration, public administration, operations management, technology, or a related field and 6 years of relevant experience leading business improvement, modernization, process design, operational excellence, automation, stakeholder engagement, or implementation initiatives, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Language requirement
The Bank’s work environment is conducive to the use of both of Canada’s official languages - English and French. The position language requirement is Level 5 (Fully Functional). Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enable high-performing teams, and support an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a portion of each month as part of the Bank’s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of 12 days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.

    • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $111,051 to $130,649 (job grade 17)
    • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
    • Flexible and comprehensive benefits so you can choose the level of health and dental coverage that meets your needs
    • Extra vacation days (up to five each year) that you can purchase to add to your vacation entitlement
    • Option to join the indexed, defined-benefit pension plan after 24 consecutive months of service
