We are looking for a Manager, Health & Safety to join our Corporate- HSE team in Calgary, AB. Reporting to the VP- General Counsel & HR you will be an important part of our team, assisting in the effective operations of our property management offices, while providing exceptional customer service.
The Manager, Health & Safety supports the protection of Northview's people, properties, and operations by leading a proactive, risk-based Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) program across the organization's diverse real estate portfolio. This role leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HSE programs, policies, and practices while partnering with operational leaders and stakeholders to identify and mitigate risk, maintain regulatory compliance, and strengthen safety performance.
This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational support, providing guidance on safety requirements, incident prevention, investigations, training, and corrective actions while promoting accountability and integrating safety into day-to-day operations. Through ongoing program oversight, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement, the Health & Safety Manager helps build a consistent and effective safety culture across Northview's operations.
Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Compliance
• Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Northview's health and safety programs, policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, environmental regulations and internal standards
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans, business continuity considerations and site-specific safety procedures
• Monitor safety performance metrics, analyze trends and provide actionable insights and recommendations to leadership
Risk & Incident Management
• Provide strategic oversight and hands-on support for incident prevention, hazard identification and risk mitigation across properties and projects
• Conduct and oversee regular safety inspections, audits and risk assessments, ensuring consistent application of safety standards
• Lead incident investigations, identify root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions
Training & Safety Culture
• Develop and deliver safety training, orientations and ongoing education programs, including an annual safety training calendar and regular training cadence.
• Partner with leaders, employees and contractors to promote accountability and embed a strong safety culture
• Coach, mentor and influence leaders and employees to strengthen safety behaviors and improve safety outcomes
Claims & Injury Management
• Support the management of provincial work-related claims and return-to-work programs in collaboration with HR and operational teams
• Provide guidance on injury management and risk mitigation to support safe and effective return-to-work practices and operational continuity
Contractor & Committee Oversight
• Monitor contractor and vendor safety performance and ensure alignment with Northview's health and safety standards
• Oversee Joint Health and Safety Committees, supporting effective communication, participation and follow-up on identified safety concerns
Key Accountabilities
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety legislation, regulatory requirements and corporate standards
• Reduce incident frequency, severity and overall organizational risk exposure through proactive prevention and risk management
• Strengthen safety performance through effective measurement, reporting, trend analysis and continuous improvement
• Drive accountability for contractor and vendor safety performance in partnership with operational leaders
• Support operational continuity through effective risk mitigation, emergency preparedness and injury management practices
• Build and sustain a proactive, accountable health and safety culture across Northview's properties and operations
Qualifications:
• Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in property management, construction, real estate, or a related industry
• Recognized safety designation preferred
• Solid understanding of applicable OH&S and environmental legislation
• Demonstrated experience leading safety programs, investigations, and safety training
• Experience working in multi-site or geographically dispersed operations preferred
• Experience in property management, construction, or facilities environments considered an asset
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management systems
