Job description

Salary: $125,000 - 140,000 per year

Requirements:

  • Advanced proficiency in Python for data science, including Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, and SciPy.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with large relational datasets.
  • Solid foundation in statistics, regression, and machine learning.
  • Experience analyzing sensor data and understanding how physical systems relate to measured signals.
  • Strong data visualization capabilities using tools such as Plotly or Matplotlib.
  • Experience writing analytical code beyond notebooks, with emphasis on testing, maintainability, scalability, and production deployment.
  • Ability to independently convert ambiguous operational challenges into structured analytical approaches.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in data science, engineering or industrial analytics, or mining technology; candidates with about 4 years of highly relevant telemetry experience may also be considered.
  • Proven record of solving complex, real-world problems with data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, including the capacity to develop analytical methodologies rather than rely only on standard approaches.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across engineering, mining, software, and business audiences.
  • Experience in mining-related areas such as open-pit mining, haul-truck operations, mine haul roads, equipment telemetry, heavy mobile equipment, fuel management and efficiency, operator performance, mine dispatch systems, GPS/GNSS tracking, or equipment instrumentation and sensors.
  • Ability to understand mining operations and connect equipment behavior to the data those systems produce.
  • Experience at a mine site or with mining companies is a strong asset.
  • Understanding of haul-truck mechanical systems and combustion engines is a plus.
  • Knowledge of fuel systems, fuel-flow measurement, or energy-efficiency analysis is a plus.
  • Experience with Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr, Hitachi, or similar mining equipment is a plus.
  • Experience developing customer-facing analytics products is a plus.
  • Portuguese or Spanish language skills in addition to English are a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • We design, develop, validate, and deploy machine-learning, statistical, and physics-informed models for mining and heavy-equipment applications.
  • We analyze large-scale telemetry data, including CAN bus, GPS/GNSS, fuel-flow meters, engine and equipment sensors, and vehicle dynamics, including spatial and geospatial machine learning on GPS trajectories.
  • We build methods to detect and characterize operational events such as equipment states, refueling, abnormal sensor behavior, and changing conditions, and to identify haul-road segments, operational hotspots, and abnormal fuel consumption.
  • We apply supervised and unsupervised techniques such as regression, clustering, nearest-neighbor methods, anomaly detection, feature engineering, and statistical modeling.
  • We investigate complex data-quality issues, including sensor failures, calibration errors, timestamp inconsistencies, missing data, and telemetry gaps, and create robust preprocessing and validation methods.
  • We design and maintain production-ready Python pipelines for processing large telemetry volumes using SQL/Postgres, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
  • We partner with software developers to move analytical prototypes into production systems and customer-facing applications.
  • We collaborate with operations, engineering, product, customer success, and field-service teams to turn operational challenges into analytical solutions and communicate directly with customers to validate methods and support deployment.
  • We translate complex findings into clear conclusions, visualizations, and actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • We help shape new analytical products where data science can deliver measurable value.
