The Durham District School Board acknowledges that many Indigenous Nations have longstanding relationships, both historic and modern, with the territories upon which our school board and schools are located. Durham Continuing Education's Personal Support Worker (PSW) program is a two-term (5 month) certificate program, offering up to 7 high-school credits. This program is delivered through a classroom theory component, practical lab experience and clinical placement experience.

Applications are being accepted for a full-time hourly paid contract (non-permanent) teaching position for:

Personal Support Worker Program

Location: DCE - E.A. Lovell School, 120 Centre Street South, Oshawa, L1H 4A3

Contract duration: September 8, 2026 - February 2, 2027 (The successful candidate could be provided with an earlier contract for onboarding and training purposes.)

Class times: Monday to Friday 8:30am - 3:30pm

Responsibilities:

• Teaching a robust healthcare and medical technologies curriculum for adult credit and PSW certification program.
• Assessing and maintaining accurate academic achievement records
• Classroom management and student engagement
• Monitoring of students during cooperative education placements (Day and Night hours)
• Assisting with Ministry mandated testing and reporting

Qualifications:

• Register Nurse in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses
• Certified Teacher in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
• Cooperative Education qualifications are an asset.
• Experience teaching adults is an asset
• Preference will be given to candidates with expertise and experience delivering Ontario Long Term Care Association Personal Support Worker curriculum.
• A criminal background check with vulnerable sector screening is a condition of employment. Proof of immunizations as per the Long-Term Care Homes Act are required prior to the clinical practicums.
