About this opportunity:

The Staff, Integrated Operations and Production Planning Engineer leads the integrated Shutdown, Turnaround, and Outage (iSTO) program for a major SAGD operating asset, developing and managing multi-year asset strategies, such as outage optimization, program level turnaround and major maintenance sequencing, and OPEX budgets exceeding $100 million. The primary focus of this position is to lead long-range planning strategies, including the development and optimization of multi-year outage, turnaround, and maintenance plans that support safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Integrity and Operations/Production Engineering.

The position also provides technical leadership through continuous improvement initiatives, mentorship, and collaboration to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations.

This position may require occasional travel to our site location(s).

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the long-range planning strategy for a designated operating asset, developing, optimizing, and managing integrated 5-year Turnaround and Major Maintenance plans, schedules, and budgets to support asset reliability, operational readiness, and business objectives.

  • Develop and optimize production loss forecasting models by integrating Reservoir, Development, Process, and iSTO data to support long-range outage planning, production forecasting, and business decision-making.

  • Establish preliminary scope frameworks for future turnaround and major maintenance events, and manage approved changes through the iSTO Change Request process to ensure alignment with schedule, budget, and operational priorities.

  • Optimize outage strategies and schedules to minimize production losses, improve execution efficiency, reduce operating costs, and enhance marketing volume forecast reliability.

  • Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Asset Integrity, Production, Process, Reservoir, and Development teams to align long-range maintenance and outage plans with asset objectives.

  • Identify and lead OPEX reduction, maintenance budget optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives across CTCHO.

  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to team members, drawing on expertise in Operations, Maintenance, Asset Integrity, and Process Engineering.

  • Engage and influence site and senior leadership through regular reviews, presentations, and cross-functional forums focused on long-range planning strategy, turnaround optimization, production loss mitigation, and business performance.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and professional engineer (.) designation in good standing with APEGA.

  • Minimum 12 years of engineering experience, preferably within the SAGD, oil sands, or broader oil and gas industry, including experience supporting operations, long-range asset strategies, maintenance, turnaround, or integrity program management activities.

  • Broad technical knowledge across Asset Integrity, Process Engineering, Production Engineering, Facility Engineering, Management of Change (MOC), and Major Capital Projects.

  • Strong analytical capabilities, including experience with data modeling, analysis, and visualization tools such as Power BI to support data-driven decision-making.

  • Proven ability to influence and drive results across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Corporate Planning organizations in a fast-paced, continuously evolving environment.

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, with experience presenting to senior leadership and leading cross-functional discussions to achieve alignment and business objectives.
