Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Procurement Specialist (Senior Buyer level) for a six-month contract to lead public-sector, high-value laboratory and research procurement initiatives. Acting as a trusted advisory partner to principal investigators, researchers, and administrative leaders, you will manage end-to-end competitive solicitations, drive total cost of ownership (TCO) value, and ensure strict compliance with public-sector trade agreements and procurement policies.

Key Responsibilities

Category Management: Direct strategic sourcing for lab spend, including reagents, chemicals, consumables, scientific capital equipment, specialized service/maintenance agreements, and niche vendors.

Complex RFx Execution: Lead end-to-end, defensible RFQ/RFP processes—from scope definition, timeline creation, and addenda management to evaluation scoring, award documentation, and supplier debriefs.

Technical Requirement Development: Partner with faculty, technologists, and researchers to translate complex scientific needs into clear, function-based specifications that balance budget, lead times, quality, and technical compatibility.

Compliance & Governance: Ensure all sourcing activities are audit-ready, transparent, and fully compliant with public-sector rules and applicable trade agreements.

Commercial Negotiation & SLA Management: Negotiate optimal pricing, rebate/discount structures, warranties, and delivery terms. Track vendor performance using SLAs and KPIs (e.g., uptime and response commitments).

Value & Risk Analytics: Conduct TCO analyses factoring in maintenance, consumables, training, calibration, and installation costs to deliver qualitative scoring and risk-informed recommendations.

Qualifications & Screening Criteria

Experience: 5+ years of strategic procurement experience, ideally at a Senior Buyer level within higher education, scientific research, healthcare, or public-sector environments.

Category Expertise: Deep domain knowledge in scientific, laboratory, and research equipment and consumables.

RFx Mastery: Track record of driving complex, high-value public solicitation processes from inception to contract execution.

Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to advise and guide academic and technical stakeholders with minimal supervision.

Advantages
Category Expertise: Deep domain knowledge in scientific, laboratory, and research equipment and consumables.
