Job description
FUNCTION & DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Complementary and Compassionate Services, the Psychologist is responsible for analyzing, documenting and intervening according to students' socio-emotional needs. The Psychologist will work closely with school administrators, social pedagogy counselors, and local and regional student counselors, in person or remotely, for the benefit of students with learning, emotional, and behavioural problems.

Direct student services:
  • In collaboration with student counselors, meet with students on an individual or group basis during occasional community visits to assess their psychological well-being.
  • In collaboration with local stakeholders, plan student visits and evaluations remotely.
  • Assess the learning, emotional, and behavioural needs of students and make recommendations to the school team to support those students better.
  • Meet the socio-emotional needs of at-risk students and plan interventions to reduce the risk.
  • Refer students to the appropriate persons and to specialized institutions as required.
  • Document interventions with specific students in a confidential manner and send copies of reports and recommendations to the administrative office (confidential file).
  • Deliver remote services (telepractice) to students in need.


Indirect student services and school staff services:
  • Under the guidance of Research, Academic Training, and Projects provide ongoing training and act as a mentor to student support professionals (SSP) and local student counselors.
  • At the request of employees, act as a clinical supervisor when needed for those employees.
  • Collaborate regularly with the counselors in special education responsible for students.
  • Work in collaboration with student counselors to plan prevention activities related to violence, alcohol and substance abuse, and other forms of abuse.
  • Collaborate with Complementary and Compassionate Services in the planning and development of training activities for students and employees to promote the development of students experiencing difficult situations.
  • Participate in school table clinics remotely to discuss student needs, make recommendations, and plan future interventions.
  • Work in person or remotely with teachers and administrators to help find solutions to specific problems.
  • At the request of the school board, provide workshops and training to employees relating to socio-emotional, behavioural, developmental, and educational matters.
  • Supervise and work on the development of intervention and postvention practices applicable to crises in Nunavik.
  • Work on the development of intervention practices in Nunavik with external partners (collaboration, evaluation, and intervention).


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • First level university degree in a relevant specialization.
  • Be a member of the "Ordre des psychologues du Québec".


The Board may, at its discretion, waive any or all of the afore-mentioned qualifications if it finds a suitable candidate who is a beneficiary of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) and who accepts, as a condition of employment, to follow a training plan determined by the Board.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good knowledge of both English and French.
  • Experience in a northern and/or cross-cultural context is an asset.
  • Be willing to travel to Nunavik frequently.


CLASSIFICATION / SALARY / BENEFITS:

In accordance with the SPPENOM collective agreement for professionals. This position belongs to job category 2113: from $59,282 to $110,674 annually depending on qualification and experience. All benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.

*As of the date on which the collective agreement comes into force, the professional concerned is entitled to a 10% salary increase and receives a 6.50% retention premium based on their basic hourly rate.
