Job descriptionWe are a busy professional family in Halifax looking for a highly organized, proactive Household Manager / Family Assistant to become a consistent part of our household. This is not primarily a nanny position, and we are not simply looking for a house cleaner. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys running and organizing a household and who gets satisfaction from making family life easier and more organized. The person we're hoping to find: -The most important quality we're looking for is initiative. We would love to find someone who, once they get to know our family and routines, can independently recognize what needs to be done and prioritize their time without needing a detailed task list each day. For example, you might notice that: -laundry needs to be started and put away -we're running low on household or grocery items -the fridge needs to be cleaned out before groceries arrive -dinner ingredients need to be prepared -our son's snacks or things for the next day need to be organized -a cupboard, play area or entryway has gotten disorganized -sheets or towels are due to be changed -something around the house needs to be replenished, organized or taken care of ...and simply take care of it. Our goal is to find someone who reduces the mental load of managing our home, not someone we need to manage throughout the day. Responsibilities: Depending on what the household needs that week, responsibilities may include: -Planning and preparing healthy family dinners -Meal prep and preparing snacks/lunches -Grocery ordering or shopping and putting groceries away -Keeping track of groceries and household supplies -Laundry from start to finish, including folding and putting away -Changing bed linens and towels -Tidying and resetting the kitchen and main living areas -Keeping closets, cupboards, pantry, toys and household spaces organized -Light household cleaning -Occasional errands and returns -Helping keep our son's clothing, meals, snacks and belongings organized -Identifying household tasks that need attention and taking initiative to complete them This position is more about helping the household function smoothly as a whole than spending the entire shift cleaning. Schedule & Compensation: -Approximately 12–15 hours per week, ideally over 3–4 weekdays to start. -We have some flexibility around the schedule and would like to establish consistent hours with the right person. -$25–30/hour depending on experience and level of independence. We are very happy to pay toward the higher end of the range for someone with demonstrated experience independently managing a household, excellent organizational skills, strong cooking/meal-planning abilities and the ability to anticipate what needs to be done. Who might be a great fit: You might have previous experience as a: -Household manager or family assistant -Experienced nanny who also managed household responsibilities -Personal or executive assistant -Professional organizer -Housekeeper with significant household-management experience -Hospitality professional -Parent or other individual who is exceptionally organized and loves managing a home -Formal household-manager experience isn't essential. Judgment, initiative, reliability and organization matter more to us than a particular job title. You should be comfortable working independently, prioritizing multiple tasks and taking ownership of your time. A driver's licence and reliable vehicle would be strongly preferred. We are looking for someone trustworthy, warm and dependable who is interested in becoming a long-term part of our family's routine. When applying: -Please tell us a little about yourself and your availability, as well as your experience with cooking, household organization and managing a home. We'd also love to hear how you would approach this scenario: -You arrive at our home for a four-hour shift. There is laundry in the hamper, groceries were delivered that morning, the kitchen needs a reset, dinner needs to be prepared, and you notice we're almost out of a few household staples. How would you organize your afternoon? There isn't one correct answer. we'd simply like to understand how you naturally prioritize and organize household tasks.
