Environment, Health & Safety Coordinator

Sunrise Farms is a group of companies with primary focus in the poultry industry.From our hatcheries to our ready to eat state of the art cooking facilities we service customers in the retail, food service and industrial sectors. Our test kitchens have the most current cooking equipment replicating that used in commercial establishments, to facilitate precision testing. Role:

The EHS Coordinator plays an important role in supporting a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace at Sunrise Farms. Reporting to the plant leadership team, this position is responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) programs and initiatives across the facility.

The EHS Coordinator must be a hands-on safety professional who is comfortable spending time on the production floor and building strong working relationships with employees and leaders. By partnering with production, maintenance, and management teams, they will help identify and reduce workplace risks, support regulatory compliance, promote employee wellbeing, and contribute to a culture where safety is a shared responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote a positive safety culture by engaging employees and leaders in health, safety, and environmental initiatives.
  • Conduct regular inspections, audits, and observations throughout the facility to identify hazards and ensure safe work practices are followed.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs, procedures, and training.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans.
  • Track corrective actions and follow up to ensure timely completion and effectiveness.
  • Maintain hazard assessments, safe work procedures, and other EHS documentation.
  • Coordinate Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities, meetings, inspections, and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor workplace injury claims and support return-to-work and modified work programs.
  • Deliver new hire safety orientation and assist with ongoing employee training and awareness programs.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to employees and supervisors on health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Analyze EHS performance metrics and prepare reports for facility and corporate leadership.
  • Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance initiatives.
  • Partner with operations and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement and reduce workplace risks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of health and safety experience in manufacturing, food processing, distribution, or industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and occupational health and safety best practices.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, hazard assessments, workplace inspections, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

Preferred:

  • Occupational Health & Safety Certificate or related professional designation is an asset.
  • Experience supporting COR certification or continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Return-to-Work and disability management programs.
  • Experience working in unionized environments.

Please note that the expected new hire salary range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sunrise Farms. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.
$75,000 - $84,300 a year
