Loader Operator – Crushing Operations

Wage Range: $29.33 - $36.67 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and safety‑driven Loader Operator to support crushing and aggregate production activities at Highland Valley Copper. This role is essential to maintaining safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the crushing spread, including plant feeding, material handling, equipment operation, and general labour support.
Ideal candidates will have experience operating loaders, skid steers, and excavators in aggregate, mining, or heavy civil environments, along with the ability to assist with labour tasks such as shoveling, belt cleaning, screen changes, and general plant maintenance. Success in this role requires strong situational awareness, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a high‑performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate loaders and skid steers to safely and efficiently feed the crusher, manage stockpiles, and load trucks.
- Support crushing plant operations through shoveling, cleaning belts, assisting with screen changes, liner changes, and maintaining housekeeping standards.
- Perform general labour duties including moving tools, materials, and equipment around the work area.
- Conduct daily inspections on mobile equipment and promptly report defects or maintenance concerns.
- Operate equipment safely in accordance with site policies, local regulations, and company procedures.
- Assist with basic servicing of crushing equipment, including lubrication, minor adjustments, and component checks.
- Maintain situational awareness while working around conveyors, moving equipment, and active work zones.
- Participate in safety programs including orientations, toolbox meetings, FLHAs, JHAs, and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Support additional site tasks as required to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in aggregate crushing operations or similar industrial environments (asset).
- Experience operating loaders, skid steers, or excavators in production or civil construction settings.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, adapting to changing priorities and site conditions.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence required; Class 3 or Class 1 considered an asset.
- Fit Test certification considered an asset.
- Basic PPE requirements: worker must supply boots, hi‑vis vest, hard hat, and safety glasses; specialized PPE provided by the company.
- Strong communication skills and ability to take direction.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and kneeling.
- Ability to lift 60–80 lbs above shoulder height.
- Comfortable working around conveyors, heavy equipment, and uneven ground.
