Job description

Description

RWDI is a global climate and performance engineering consulting firm that helps its clients redefine what’s possible by overcoming design and operational challenges, while minimizing environmental, user, and resource impact. With deep technical expertise across a broad range of services, we drive success on ambitious building, industry, and infrastructure projects.

We are a values-based organization, which means everything we do relates back to our three core values: innovation, integrity, and integration. So, when we look for new people to join our team, alignment to these values is a vital piece of our people puzzle. Here’s what this looks like:
  • You push the boundaries of what’s possible.
  • People know they can rely on you to follow through on your commitments.
  • You believe that when a group of people come together, they can achieve more than anyone person could alone.
If this sounds like you and you’re ready to join an award-winning organization and work alongside renown technical and exceptionally innovative colleagues, RWDI is the place for you.
We are seeking applicants who are passionate about wind engineering to join our Wind Effects - Buildings Team as a Wind Engineering Coordinator / E.I.T. in our Guelph office.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes but is not limited to:
  • Solving challenging problems related to wind engineering of high-rise buildings, long-span roofs, stadia, and other special structures in the built environment.
  • Consulting with structural engineers, architects, and developers to help them achieve safe, optimized, and innovative structures.
  • Coordinating with wind tunnel technicians, model builders, and CAD technicians to conduct physical simulations of wind effects in one of RWDI’s boundary layer wind-tunnels.
  • Interpreting and analyzing wind tunnel data to generate clear and concise recommendations related to wind design of the structure, façade, and/or building components (e.g., furniture, pavers, PV panels).
  • Undertaking desk-based assessments based on interpretation of codes, technical literature, and experience (often database-assisted) to provide our clients timely guidance.
  • Communicating engineering results and design recommendations that deliver effective and easy to understand solutions using a variety of vehicles from technical reports to live meetings.
  • Co-ordinating with a diverse team to deliver top advice to our clients on time and on budget while working under the general supervision of senior staff with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

We are accepting applications from candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s level Engineering degree in Structural, Mechanical or Aerospace. A degree and/or background in Wind Engineering is an asset/preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wind engineering concepts, bluff body aerodynamics, and/or structural dynamics.
  • Knowledge of the design of structures, and/or knowledge and application of wind and snow sections of building codes (i.e., NBCC, ASCE-7).
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar environments.
  • Experience with Excel/VBA automation and scientific computing using scripting language such as Python preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • An aptitude for practical self-directed problem solving and proven ability to successfully meet deadlines.
If you possess 80% of the qualifications listed, please apply since you may have additional skills that would align well with this role.

Job Benefits

What We Offer:
  • An opportunity to redefine possible
  • Salary range: $65,000 – $85,000 (based on experience)
  • Group health benefits
  • Proactive and ongoing training, education, and a Learning Spending Account
  • Fitness Spending Account
