Environmental Risk Manager
Location: Prince George, BC (On-Site)
Duration: 7-Month Contract
Schedule: 5 Days per Week or Potential 10/4 Rotation
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Environmental Risk Manager to support one of British Columbia’s largest and most significant transmission infrastructure programs.
A key aspect of the program is the development and operation of infrastructure that will be co-owned with multiple First Nations, making environmental risk management, stakeholder collaboration, and Indigenous engagement particularly important.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary environmental liaison between environmental management, Construction and Commercial Management teams, contractors, and project-based environmental staff.
- Lead environmental risk management activities associated with major transmission construction.
- Identify, assess, communicate, and manage environmental risks throughout project planning and construction.
- Develop environmental work plans and recommend appropriate environmental protection and mitigation measures.
- Provide environmental advice and technical recommendations to project and construction teams.
- Support environmental review processes and resolve complex environmental issues arising in the field.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary environmental studies, assessments, and mitigation programs.
- Work closely with First Nations, contractors, internal stakeholders, and environmental professionals.
- Support compliance with applicable environmental regulations, commitments, permits, and project requirements.
- Provide leadership and guidance to project environmental teams while supporting effective issue and conflict resolution.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8–10+ years of environmental management and/or environmental risk management experience.
- Experience managing environmental risks on large-scale construction projects.
- Eligible for a professional designation in BC such as RPF, RPBio, P.Eng., P.Ag., P.Geo., or AScT.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and requirements applicable to utility or infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience working and engaging with First Nations.
- Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and issue management capabilities.
- Strong organizational and computer skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Nice to Have
- Major transmission or utility infrastructure project experience.
- Heavy civil earthworks experience.
- Transmission line construction experience.
- Experience supporting large, geographically dispersed capital programs.
Work Environment
- Based on-site in Prince George, BC.
- Assignment may operate on a standard 5-day work week or a 10/4 rotation.
- Accommodation will be provided, initially through hotel accommodation and transitioning to camp accommodation as available.
