The term for this position is October 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027 Position SummaryThe Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) program is a shared partnership between the Regina Open Door Society (RODS), the Regina Public School Board (RPSB) Regina Catholic Schools, Conseil des Ecoles Fransaskoises and Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It is an outreach program to help newcomer students and their families settle in their school and community.Requirements2 to 3 year's human services experience; A Post-Secondary education or related work experience are position requirements.Additional requirements include excellent communication (oral and written), para-counseling, cross-cultural, leadership, motivational, and organizational skillsThe successful candidate will possess the skills necessary to develop the program and work cooperatively and professionally as a representative of RODS in the school setting. The successful applicant will also require a criminal record check, clean child abuse registry record, reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and a clean driver abstractpetenciesExcellent interpersonal, communication skillsThe ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural and team environment.Work experience in a client-orientated position or related field targeting immigrant and refugee youth, children and familiesKnowledge of settlement related issues facing immigrants and refugee youth, children and familiesBroad knowledge of local community resources that can assist newcomer youth, children and families with their settlement needsSolid para professional counseling and group facilitation skills. Familiar in casework process, including intake procedures, referrals, case management, documentation and follow-ups.Understanding of Canada and Saskatchewan Privacy Policies and education systemStrong time-management and organizational skills are essentialComputer skills with knowledge of Windows, MS Office, email and internet.Good verbal, written and presentation skills in English. Bi-Lingual or Multi-Lingual. Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuties include but not limited to the following:Providing services in a supportive and culturally-sensitive and linguistically-appropriate mannerAssessing the needs of immigrant families and the barriers to successful integration and provide appropriate referral;Work with RODS program to connect newcomer families with services in the communitySupporting newcomer parents to establish links with their children's schools and get involved in school and community activities;In collaboration with schools creating opportunities and support for newcomer parents to participate in school activities, committees, councils and associations;Participating in the school reception and orientation process for newcomer students and their familiesFacilitating /delivering information sessions and workshops to school personnel with the aim of fostering understanding of the culture and the unique challenges of immigrant and refugee youth/childrenProviding orientation sessions on programs and services available in the school and communityHelping children adjust to school culture and focus on learning while providing their parents with information and resources on settlement and immigration issues;Informing and orientating families and students about settlement related issuesProviding outreach services to new familiesFacilitating referrals and access to available resources in the community, social services, professional services and government programsReceive program related referrals from schools and input the information into RODS database;Enabling families to advocate on their own behalf, including for the educational needs of their children *Other duties as requiredDirect Reports NASalary Level/ClassificationHours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:15 AM to 3:45 PM with 45 minutes lunch break. All positions at RODS require a clean criminal record/child abuse registry check. There is a cost shared benefits package available to the employee with successful completion of a probationary period.The annual salary for this position starts at $44,960.78 ($25.62 per hour) at Step 0ne of the Case Worker RODS wage category. Pay periods are the end of day on the 15th of the month and the end of each month.Working ConditionsThis position works out of Regina schools. Travel within Regina and surrounding area is needed to deliver services. Occasional Out of town trip required.
