About the role
Join the Finance - Insurance and Securitization team, in the Specialist, Actuarial Services position, where we use actuarial and financial foresight to improve housing affordability and serve as a key contributor to the growth of intellectual capital across the business and influence the development of actuarial and financial knowledge of Canada’s mortgage sector.
This is a temporary position of a duration of 12 months.
What you'll do:
- Support the team in the development and maintenance of our Financial Statement models used to project CMHC’s finance and capital position under different economic scenarios.
- Perform duties of calculations, projections, analysis and reports related to the Corporate Plan, Capital Plan, Dividend Recommendation, Stress Testing, Financial Condition Testing and Pricing oversight.
- Support the team in providing interpretation, advice and guidance about the financial impact of new products and initiatives on CMHC’s projected financial statements and capital position.
- Ensure adequate controls are in place and are well documented for all relevant processes.
- Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements in the areas of insurance valuation, capital adequacy and other relevant actuarial fields.
What you should have:
- An undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Quantitative Finance.
- Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Casualty Actuarial Society and/or Societies of Actuaries designation or actively pursuing designation.
- A minimum of five years of related work experience.
- An understanding of and demonstrated experience with actuarial valuation methodologies, financial modelling, capital adequacy and risk management.
- The ability to work within a sophisticated technological environment (Databricks, DevOps) using various modelling and programming tools such as Python and R.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain analyses, assumptions and data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
It would be great if you also had:
- Bilingualism (French and English).
- Knowledge of IFRS 17 Actuarial Valuation and Financial Statements.
- Knowledge of the Mortgage Insurance and Securitization business as well as the Mortgage Insurance Capital Adequacy Test (MICAT).
