Job description

Term of App't: Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week (7 hours/week) Start date: ImmediatelyReporting to: Director of Student ServicesSalary:Starting salary ranges from $78,098.00 - $88,536.00 annually based on experience and qualifications, as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement, with annual increments up to a maximum of $114,001.00. Non-instructional faculty employees receive 210 hours of vacation annually, pro-rated and front-loaded, based on FTE, as well as time off paid between the Christmas and New Year's Day period. We offer an extremely competitive extended health and dental program. Staff within this division are required to enroll in our College Pension Plan, with contributions matched by the EmployerDescription:The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and assessing individual educational support needs of students with disabilities and will develop and coordinate the accommodation plans for these students in conjunction with Faculty, Deans, Chairs, and Support Staff. The candidate will review assessments, medical documentation and specialist reports to determine accommodation needs and will provide advice to students on documentation they may need to acquire; following college policy, BC human rights code, and ministry guidelines in providing services and access to educational programs and courses for students with disabilities. The Access Services Coordinator will support students in understanding the functional impacts of their disability and how NLC can best support them. Within the college community the successful candidate will broaden awareness on disability issues and the needs of students with disabilities. Along with supporting current students this position also supports students with disabilities in their transition to post-secondary education.The Access Services Coordinator will be responsible for preparing letters, reports and other related documents to provide verification of student's disabilities and/or accommodations to satisfy ministry requirements. The successful candidate will arrange, coordinate and schedule the provision of support services including, but not limited to, tutors and note takers and will work with other departments to ensure the smooth delivery of accommodated tests, assessments and exams. Assists students in applying for funding or grants that may be available for students with disabilities and works very closely with other agencies that provide educational materials in alternative formats, and provision of equipment needed to support their learning.***This is a Regional position that will be based at the Dawson Creek campus, with a minimum of 2 days a week travel throughout the region that will include Fort St. John, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge and Fort Nelson campuses.Qualifications:The required minimal qualifications are as follows:Masters Degree specializing in Special Education or a related relevant field;2 – 3 years' of relevant experience with adult learners with disabilities, and experience planning and implementing disability related accommodations, (a combination of education and related experience may be considered);Knowledge of disabilities issues, statutory obligations, privacy guidelines, knowledge of adaptive technology and specialty software/hardware and disability related resources;Demonstrable expertise in relevant software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.) and experience working with data bases;The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and other service-providers in order to work collaboratively, resolve problems and spread awareness of disability needs and supports.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to multitask; andHold a current and valid drivers' license.Preference will be given to those who have: Experience with post-secondary environment and/or working with adult-learners with disabilities; andA proven ability to work positively with a demanding workload, changing priorities, continuous interruptions and to coordinate accommodations within a diverse range of programs.We thank all applicants for their interest in employment with NLC, however; only those contacted for an interview will be acknowledged.
