Team Overview:

The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:

  • Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC’s 2030 business transformation.
  • Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
  • Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
  • Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.

Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a compact but highly influential team within the Digital and Technology Solutions (DTS) group that provides critical strategic and tactical services to and on behalf of other functions at EDC. The team is architecture as a service oriented meaning that it embraces its role as an influencer and facilitator of achieving concrete objectives and outcomes that are typically actually executed by other groups. The team defines the digital strategy and technology target state that enables EDC business strategies and facilitates its execution through enterprise frameworks, forums and actionable insights that shape planning outcomes and inform technology decisions. The EA team has accountability to ensure other architecture disciplines as well as corporate platform teams and relevant COEs are aligned with executing their parts of the digital strategy through various governance and collaboration functions.

EDC’s Digital Roadmap is premised on a key architecture principle of consolidating disparate, isolated business applications onto fewer market leading platforms to meet business needs, including for example Adobe Experience Manager, Salesforce and ServiceNow, supported by cross-cutting enablement, data and technology platforms including Microsoft 365/Azure and Data Bricks – although not all business needs are expected to be supported by core corporate platforms and some niche applications will always be required.

Operating within a robust end-to-end architecture governance flow from strategy, objectives and key results to solution design review and effectiveness monitoring, the Senior Enterprise Architect will embody aspects of Enterprise Solution Architecture to facilitate cross-functional direction on the use, scope, boundaries and enterprise alignment of major corporate platforms as they are implemented through the execution of EDC’s Digital Roadmap. Ability to apply and explain enterprise architecture principles and distil and communicate enterprise architecture vision into actionable direction that facilitates well-structured technology delivery is critical. This requires practical knowledge of enterprise architecture disciplines and a commitment to effective collaboration across business stakeholders, architecture domains, platform teams and various COEs that all work together to build EDC’s technology target state in a way that enables EDC 2030 business strategy objectives.

What you will be doing:

  • Work within the EA team to engage business and IT stakeholders to develop and evolve the digital strategy, roadmap and technology target state in alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to understand their needs and integrate them into the digital roadmap.
  • Become familiar with EDC’s technology landscape to provide actionable insights that guide decisions to build the technology target state.
  • Understand the concept, risks and practicalities of technical debt and how to balance tech debt pay down with growing new technology capabilities within a given business/IT domain.
  • Understand and apply business architecture and business capabilities to architecture designs.
  • Guide collaborative, cross-functional approach to framing full stack digital roadmap project execution.
  • Provide architecture framing that enables CX, application, data, integration and infrastructure teams to collaborate on a single business outcome-driven architecture designs.
  • Work within and promote end to end architecture governance value streams.
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into cross-domain architectural solution guidelines.
  • Communicate architectural strategies, roadmaps, and governance to business and IT stakeholders in all areas of the organization.
  • Develop, maintain and grow a network of influence across skey business and IT stakeholders.
  • Coach and mentor other architecture discipline practitioners.
  • Support the development of Architectural Principles and Standards.
  • Support the development of Business Architecture deliverables including Business Capabilities.

What we are looking for:

  • University degree in a field relevant to enterprise architecture discipline and practice.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ combined experience in enterprise or solution architecture.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in developing executable architecture designs.
  • Exceptional skills in influencing and driving results across cross-functional domains and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to think strategically, act tactically and execute operationally.
  • Ability to conceptualize and articulate architecture visions that enable domain and delivery teams to execute in alignment with enterprise direction.
  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, software as a service (SaaS), infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven IT and predictive analytics.
  • Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, agile and lean methodologies, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks.
  • Understanding of the different types of agile principles, methodologies, and frameworks, especially those designed to be scaled at enterprise level.
  • Knowledge of all components of EA, business and IT principles, and processes.
  • Familiarity with EA tools, graphical modeling approaches and repository management.

What will make you stand out:

  • Prior architecture involvement in implementing market-leading platforms in customer and employee servicing ecosystems specifically ServiceNow, Salesforce and modern SaaS based ERPs.
