Job description

Role:
Family Service and Programs Associate

Location: Regina, SK

Employment: Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities Available

Reporting to: Director of Operations

Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan is a place that offers comfort, support and community to families with sick children, creating a nurturing place where families can heal together through compassion and communal support. They offer essential resources and a supportive home environment with a range of services including meals, health and wellness programs and sibling support, seeking to help alleviate the financial burden with accessing medical care but also enrich the healing process. Beyond just a place to stay, they have created a home filled with healing and hope, ensuring families can focus on what matters most, the well-being of their children.

With compassion and community support, Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan thrives on the generosity of its volunteers, donors and community partners. As they continue to grow and expand their impact with the support of Saskatchewan’s caring community, they are building brand new locations in Prince Albert and Regina. Connect with an organization that is passionate about contributing directly to the recovery and emotional support of children and families.

The Opportunity

As Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan prepares to open its new Houses in Prince Albert and Regina, they are seeking Family Service & Programs Associates to help families feel supported from their first call through every day they spend at the House.

You may start your day coordinating a referral with a hospital social worker, welcoming a family arriving later that morning, and spend the afternoon connecting families with programs, answering questions, or working through a situation that could not have been anticipated. You will come to know the families staying in the House, understand what they need, and recognize that sometimes support means stepping in, while other times it means simply giving someone space.

It takes someone who cares about people, reads situations well, and knows how to respond with both compassion and confidence. You are comfortable having difficult conversations, can adapt when the day changes direction, and understand the importance of the small interactions that can make life a little easier for a family focused on the health of their child.

Key Responsibilities

As the Family Service & Programs Associate, you will work collaboratively and are responsible for:

1. Family Service & Guest Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for families, providing a welcoming, compassionate, and supportive experience throughout their stay.
  • Coordinate family referrals and admissions with social workers, nurses, medical teams, and other healthcare professionals, gathering required information and assigning rooms in accordance with RMHC policies.
  • Welcome and register families, complete required documentation, provide House orientations, and communicate expectations, resources, and available supports.
  • Remain attentive to changing family needs and provide support to those navigating difficult or emotional circumstances.
  • Address family concerns and policy issues with confidence and sensitivity, knowing when to resolve concerns independently and when additional support is needed.
  • Maintain strong communication with House Services, Facilities, and other team members to ensure family and operational needs are addressed.

2. Family Programs & House Experience

  • Coordinate and support Family Programs including food programming, shuttle services, pet therapy, family activities, seasonal celebrations, and other House initiatives.
  • Welcome and support volunteers, practicum students, program providers, and community partners participating in Family Service and program delivery.
  • Help families stay connected to available programs and services while ensuring programming remains welcoming, accessible, and aligned with RMHC Saskatchewan's REDI philosophy.
  • Take ownership of assigned program or operational portfolios based on House needs, team responsibilities, and individual strengths.
  • Remain actively engaged throughout the House, recognizing where support is needed and contributing to a positive experience for families, volunteers, and colleagues.

3. House Operations & Administration

  • Support the day-to-day flow of the House, balancing family calls, check-ins and check-outs, program needs, and changing priorities throughout the shift.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential family records, database information, and financial documentation including applicable room fees, payments, invoices, donations, deposits, and vouchers.
  • Complete opening and closing procedures and respond appropriately to family concerns, House issues, and emergency situations.
  • Support House tours, community engagement, and RMHC events as required.

Qualifications

As the Family Service & Programs Associate, you will possess the following qualities:

The Essentials (Hard Skills):

  • Post-secondary education in Social Work or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience in hospitality, healthcare, community services, or another highly people-focused environment will also be considered.
  • Experience supporting people through complex or sensitive situations, with the confidence to reinforce expectations and navigate difficult conversations respectfully.
  • Strong situational judgment and the ability to think on your feet, assess changing needs, and respond appropriately in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to balance family needs, referrals, programming, administration, and competing priorities throughout the day.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and database systems while handling confidential family information with discretion and accuracy.
  • Experience supporting family programs, volunteers, or community initiatives is considered an asset.
  • A valid driver’s licence and flexibility to work a rotating schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

The Intangibles (Soft Skills):

  • Emotionally intelligent and compassionate, with the ability to recognize when to ask questions, when to listen, and when to give someone space.
  • Confident and grounded when navigating sensitive situations, difficult conversations, and changing family needs.
  • Adaptable and quick-thinking, comfortable shifting priorities and responding to what the House or families need in the moment.
  • Proactive and engaged, with a natural instinct to notice where support is needed and step in without waiting to be asked.
  • Approachable and comfortable connecting with families, volunteers, colleagues, and community partners.
  • A collaborative team player who sees the bigger picture of the House and is willing to contribute beyond their immediate responsibilities.

  • Competitive Compensation Package - Competitive pay with annual compensation reviews and paid time off based on employment status.
  • Health & Wellness Support - Access to health and wellness benefits and an Employee Assistance Program, with coverage based on eligibility.
  • Retirement Savings - RRSP matching opportunities for eligible employees.
