Our role in Canada’s supply chain is essential. It’s a responsibility and a privilege, one that inspires us to deliver expert solutions that help move cargo and people across the globe for our customers reliably, safely, and professionally.

SSA Marine is seeking a Manager, Commercial Services, Terminals & Stevedoring to join our team! This full-time, permanent position is based at our office in North Vancouver and will report to the Vice President, Business Development & Commercial.

The Position

The Manager, Commercial Services - Terminals & Stevedoring drives revenue growth and business development by optimizing commercial opportunities, managing key customer and stakeholder relationships, and supporting operational performance within the Terminals & Stevedore Division. The role oversees stevedore quotations, billing, invoice approvals, and contract negotiations while collaborating across operations, finance, and commercial teams to maximize cargo volumes and support sustainable business growth.

You will be part of a motivated and diverse team and will have a high degree of interaction with all employees throughout the organization.

Responsibilities & Activities

  • Coordinate and support annual stevedore agreement negotiations to achieve commercial objectives.
  • Collaborate with operations, finance, and commercial teams to align business activities with operational and financial goals.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with carriers, ship agents, freight forwarders, project management firms, and other key industry stakeholders.
  • Foster positive relationships with local stakeholders and internal business units to support effective coordination and execution.
  • Identify, develop, and retain new business opportunities to support revenue growth and market expansion.
  • Drive initiatives to increase cargo volumes, strengthen customer retention, and enhance the Division’s market share.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership on business opportunities, pipeline performance, and market developments.
  • Conduct market and competitive analysis, monitor industry trends, and provide insights and recommendations to support strategic planning and commercial decision-making.

Qualifications & Skills

The Manager communicates and collaborates with internal teams and external stakeholders, including carriers, ship agents, freight forwarders, and community partners, to support commercial activities, business development, and relationship management. The role prepares and presents commercial analyses, quotes, and reports, while providing recommendations to leadership on market, operational, and business opportunities. Primarily office-based, the position requires frequent stakeholder engagement, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities, with occasional travel, terminal site visits, and attendance at meetings or events outside regular business hours.

The qualifications and skills to be successful in this position include:

  • Industry-related qualifications with a minimum of 10 years of management-level experience in the marine, logistics, or transportation sector.
  • Strong knowledge of marine logistics, terminal operations, and marine operational processes.
  • Experience with commercial functions including rate analysis, pricing, quotations, billing, and contract management.
  • Thorough understanding of market conditions, competitive landscapes, and business growth opportunities.
  • Strong analytical and business acumen with the ability to assess costs, revenue drivers, and commercial opportunities.
  • Excellent relationship management, stakeholder engagement, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • High attention to detail with proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and other business systems.
  • Proven ability to balance operational and business development priorities, manage multiple demands, collaborate across functions, and apply market insights to business decisions.

Benefits of Working with SSA Marine

  • A compensation package which includes extended health & dental benefits.
  • Access to learning and professional development opportunities to support you and your career development.
  • Wellness and Employee Assistance programs.
  • Free parking
  • Enjoy a company culture that is steeped in care for employees and where community and diversity, equity and inclusion are valued.
