Stay to experience a progressive career path with an employer that is dedicated to providing a positive working environment, along with competitive compensation and benefits.Additional information regarding the Board is available on the Board’s web site at.POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Principal, the Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) works in partnership with the Classroom Teacher, parents, other DECEs, educational support staff and special education staff. They are responsible for supporting early learning in an enriched learning environment designed to help children develop the foundational social, emotional, academic and physical skills necessary to succeed in school and in life, as well as support the extension of learning into the child’s home. The DECE plans and implements the Early Learning program collaboratively in consultation with the classroom teacher under the guidance of the Principal. DECEs work collaboratively with all staff to track the developmental progress of all children, providing support to the teacher in writing report cards, participating in parent-teacher conferences, creating an inclusive learning environment, providing proactive and reactive interventions, providing oversight to support the health, safety and well being of children in the program and facilitating home/school communication, as well as other duties as assigned by the Principal.QUALIFICATIONS:Ontario High School Diploma or equivalent as well as a Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education and registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is required. A minimum of two years of experience in a similar environment as well as First Aid and CPR certification are preferred. SPECIFIC DUTIES: 1. Under the direction of the Principal and in partnership with the classroom teacher, plans and implements the Early Learning Program for children. This includes supporting children’s development of oral language skills through modeling, attentive listening, individual play experiences, conversations and questioning techniques in small groups and individual settings. 2. Working with the teacher, plans and implements centers and child centered play experiences. This includes helping to develop and carry out a daily classroom schedule that incorporates child-directed activities, care routines and transition times. 3. In partnership with the teacher, responsible for following Board policies to maintain a safe and healthy environment within the classroom. This includes helping to organize space, equipment and materials prior to learning activities. 4. Responsible for leading small and large group activities and experiences, encouraging and assisting children with development of social skills and learning through play, development of foundational literacy and numeracy skills that are developmentally appropriate, build/foster the development of oral language, using reflective listening to respond to children’s needs, provide positive guidance that encourages self discipline in children and set reasonable behaviour expectations. 5. Identify students who may benefit from early intervention strategies and identify/provide appropriate instructional resources/strategies support. 6. Gather information for use in assessment of individual children’s development by observing how children use the materials and interact with each other and adults. 7. Collects data, using a variety of assessment tools and sources, to plan activities that foster learning through play. 8. As a professional in the field, reflect on personal strengths and needs specific to the role, establish and maintain a positive working relationship with colleagues, participates in learning that keeps them current with early childhood practices and the initiatives and practices of the Early Years program , work independently and as a member of a team and maintain confidentiality. 9. Under the direction of the Principal, the DECE may participate in school events including parent teacher interviews, student information sessions, as well as other events related directly or indirectly to the Early Childhood Program. 10. Participate in effective and ongoing professional communication with parents/guardians regarding the development of their children including participation in parent/guardian-teacher interviews and help maintain an atmosphere that is supportive to parents/guardians. 11. Performs other duties as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent works in a classroom environment with frequent interruptions and varying noise levels. Moderate physical effort normally required including routine walking, sitting or standing. Constant hearing/speech communication is necessary as is frequent visual concentration. Fine motor activities are required i.e. keyboarding, logging data results, etc. This description is intended to be generic in nature.
