Implements and follows guidelines within the Custodial Manual. The incumbent may be assigned to system-wide caretaking work where required.QUALIFICATIONSGrade 12 education or equivalent experience preferred but not required. Good communication skills, ability to perform the duties of the position and a demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions is required. Knowledge of commercial cleaning products, materials and applications as well as knowledge of cleaning procedures as they relate to public buildings is preferred. First Aid certification an asset and will be provided if necessary.RESPONSIBILITIES1. Communicates with Worksite Supervisor or Lead Custodian, where applicable, on a daily basis to ensure a safe, secure and clean environment is maintained in all buildings and outside grounds .2. Fulfils custodial responsibilities on a regular daily basis that are associatedwith the cleanliness and upkeep of all buildings and outside grounds.3. Performs daily cleaning duties within all buildings as per requirements of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario School Boards’ Insurance Exchange (OSBIE), Custodial Manual, etc. which may include but is not limited to, cleaning of assigned areas, removal of general waste (garbage, recycling, compost material, etc.),Casual custodians work on an as needed basis and accept assignments on short notice as they become available. Performs minor ground maintenance which may include but is not limited to snow removal from entrances, walkways, roof etc., salting/sanding, removal of general waste (garbage, recycling) from grounds and attending to flowers/shrubbery. Ensures building is always secure and locked when appropriate, as per the Custodial Manual . Permanent Custodians may provide guidance and/or training to casual custodians and summer staff, including students. Ensures that permit holders adhere to regulations related to the use of facilities. Assist permit holders with set up and proper use of equipment. Prepares work orders in co-operation with the Worksite Supervisor and/or Lead Custodian, where applicable, for repairs and maintenance as required. Assists the Lead Custodian in requisitions and maintains an inventory of custodial supplies. Responsible for safely operating all machinery associated with the duties and ensuring equipment is properly utilized and maintained. Certification in First Aid required and maintained. Report unauthorized activities in or on grounds of school and subsequent problems to Lead Custodian and/or Worksite Supervisor and/or SQS and proper authorities, including vandalism, break-ins and fire alarms. as warranted per situation. Other related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS:Custodians typically work in school/office settings, and/or other assigned worksite/board facilities, and occasionally, outdoor settings. The custodial role requires moderate with occasional heavy physical effort. Physical daily demands include frequent, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling equipment. Occasional heavy effort may be required. Constant visual concentration is necessary. Constant handling and frequent gripping.
