Steel Structure Estimator

We are currently seeking an experienced and highly analytical Steel Structure Fabrication Estimator for a full-time, on-site position. Earning a competitive annual salary of $70,000-$100,000, you will serve as the financial cornerstone for upcoming structural steel and miscellaneous metal projects. Your primary focus will be analyzing contract specifications, technical blueprints, and client needs to produce highly accurate cost appraisals for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services. Working out of a dynamic fabrication facility, you will collaborate closely with internal teams—including production and purchasing—as well as external clients, to drive successful project bids from the initial review stage through to execution.

Responsibilities
Analyze architectural and structural blueprints, tender documents, and project specifications.

Perform precise quantity take-offs for miscellaneous metals, structural steel, and custom fabricated components (e.g., stairs, railings).

Calculate comprehensive project costs encompassing materials, cutting, drilling, fitting, welding, coating, and final installation.

Source, review, and evaluate pricing quotes from external suppliers and subcontractors.

Assemble comprehensive bid packages, including detailed pricing summaries and cost breakdowns.

Assess potential project risks, evaluate scope adjustments, and review timeline feasibility.

Partner with detailing, purchasing, and production departments to ensure accurate and aligned project estimates.

Engage in value engineering discussions and bid strategy meetings to optimize competitiveness.

Maintain and update historical pricing data, productivity rates, and estimating databases.

Facilitate seamless project handovers to the operations team upon successful contract acquisition.

Price out scope changes and generate reliable estimates for any additional work requests.

Ensure all estimates strictly adhere to customer standards, building codes, and CSA regulations.

Cultivate and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, contractors, and vendors.

Qualifications
A Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a similar field (equivalent industry experience will be strongly considered).

A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional estimating experience specifically within structural steel fabrication, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure construction.

Mandatory proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, alongside strong Microsoft Office and Excel skills.

Proven ability to seamlessly decipher complex structural steel blueprints and fabrication schematics.

In-depth understanding of steel manufacturing processes, including cutting, drilling, fitting, welding, painting, and galvanizing.

Familiarity with fabrication tolerances, welding procedures, and steel erection sequencing.

Exceptional mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills to manage multiple high-priority bids simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, paired with effective negotiation abilities.

Assets: Gold Seal Certification in Estimating, a PMP designation, or specialized knowledge of CWB standards are highly advantageous.
