Personal Support Workers - For Future Opportunities in Long Term Care

Location Our Long Term Care Division will be opening Seaton Village, a brand new 200-bed long term care home in north Pickering in early 2027, and we are building our team from the ground up.

With this expansion, we will be hiring Personal Support Workers (PSWs) for all locations, with opportunities to join the new home or grow within our existing sites. While most positions are part-time, some full-time positions may also be available.

Personal Support Worker As a PSW, you will:

Assist each resident with activities of daily living (ADLs), while promoting their independence

Provide personal care and support to each resident according to their care plan

Work cooperatively with the other members of the care team

Participate in care planning, evaluation and documentation

The successful applicants will possess:

A Personal Support Worker Certificate from an approved educational institution that meets the Ministry of Colleges and Universities PSW standard, inclusive of a minimum of 600 hours in duration obtained after July 1, 2014 or registration with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA)

Previous experience in a geriatric or long term care environment is preferred

Demonstrated compliance with and knowledge of safe work practices

Proven communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions

A commitment to treating all clients and colleagues with dignity, respect and cultural sensitivity, and a demonstrated willingness to adapt services to meet diverse needs

Demonstrated empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and services for residents

Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job

Hours of Work As a new employee, you must be available to work all shifts - Days, Afternoons and Nights - including 2, up to 3, weekends per month. You should also be available to pick up call-in shifts on occasion. Schedules are prepared and posted 4-6 weeks in advance and are based on operational needs of the home; we do not schedule around another employer's work schedule, nor based your availability or preferences. Once you complete your probationary period, you will have the ability to declare certain scheduling preferences.

Personal Support Worker Salary Information

The hourly rate range for this position is $32.35 to $33.45. In addition, you will receive a $3.00 per hour top-up as per Ontario's Permanent Wage Enhancement program. Please note, this program is funded by the provincial government and may be subject to change.

Conditions of Employment All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within six (6) months from date of hire. Additionally, tuberculosis screening will be required in accordance with the FLTCAct (O.Reg. 246/22). Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected. Finally, compliance with the Mask Fit Testing Program is required and will be coordinated as part of the orientation process.
