Position Summary

The Tourism Coordinator is responsible for supporting the growth and promotion of the municipality’s tourism sector by developing and implementing tourism strategies, marketing initiatives, and partnership programs. This role focuses on attracting visitors, enhancing tourism experiences, and fostering economic growth through destination marketing, event support, and collaboration with local businesses and partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement tourism strategies that promote the municipality as a destination for visitors, businesses, and events.
  • Work with local businesses, tourism operators, and industry partners to enhance visitor experiences and tourism offerings.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of marketing campaigns, including digital content, social media strategies, and promotional materials.
  • Support tourism-related events, festivals, and initiatives that drive visitor engagement and economic benefits for the community.
  • Conduct research and analyze tourism trends, visitor statistics, and economic impact to inform strategic planning.
  • Assist in securing funding, sponsorships, and grants to support tourism initiatives and community projects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regional, provincial, and national tourism organizations to enhance marketing efforts and collaborative opportunities.
  • Provide visitor information and support, ensuring excellent customer service and access to up-to-date tourism resources.
  • Coordinate the development and distribution of tourism collateral, including brochures, maps, and online guides.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations on tourism development strategies, trends, and program performance for municipal leadership.

Position Requirements

Education & Certifications:

  • Diploma in Tourism Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in economic development, tourism development, marketing, or event coordination.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Tourism Development Knowledge: Strong understanding of destination marketing, visitor engagement, and tourism growth strategies.
  • Marketing & Promotion: Knowledge of developing tourism campaigns, overseeing digital media, and creating promotional materials.
  • Interest-Holder Engagement: Ability to build relationships with businesses, tourism operators, and industry partners.
  • Event Support: Knowledge of event logistics, sponsorships, and community engagement strategies.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for public relations, marketing, and partner engagement.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to interpret tourism data, visitor trends, and economic impacts to support planning and decision-making.
  • Financial Acumen: Experience with funding applications, sponsorships, and grant writing to support tourism initiatives.
  • Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on enhancing visitor experiences and tourism service delivery.
  • Project Coordination: Ability to oversee multiple tourism initiatives, work within timelines, and meet deadlines efficiently.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a combination of office settings, visitor centers, and outdoor event locations. Occasional travel may be required to attend tourism conferences, industry events, and partner meetings.
  • Standard business hours, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility required to support tourism programs and events.
  • This role involves potential exposure to various weather conditions while setting up or attending outdoor events.
  • Cognitive demands include understanding various stakeholder needs and find common ground to enhance overall tourism offerings and juggling campaign development, event support, content creation, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Physical demands include extended periods of sitting and looking at a computer screen, as well as lifting promotional materials and setting up event spaces.

  • Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check
  • Proof of certifications
