Senior Cloud Architect (8+ years IT infrastructure / 6+ years Azure) to design and secure cloud and hybrid environments using Microsoft Azure, Microsoft , and CI/CD

Join an environmental consulting and engineering services organization advancing its cloud modernization and cybersecurity compliance initiatives. This role leads the design, governance, security hardening, and optimization of Azure and hybrid environments while supporting SOC 2 readiness and operational resilience. The position includes ownership of cloud architecture, identity management, Microsoft administration, cloud security controls, and Infrastructure as Code initiatives. Our firm is supporting this search exclusively for a Calgary-based onsite engagement.

Contract (6 months, strong potential to extend or convert to permanent), Calgary, 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Hybrid, Working Hours: MST

Must Haves

• 8+ years in IT infrastructure, with 6+ years in Azure administration and cloud architecture
• Microsoft Azure, hybrid cloud, and on-premises environments administration and environment design
• Azure Entra ID, Conditional Access, RBAC, PIM, and Zero Trust implementation
• Microsoft tenant administration including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams
• Experience hardening cloud environments aligned with CIS benchmarks
• Experience with SAST/DAST/vulnerability assessment of application code in the cloud, with ability to own and administer a SAST platform

Nice to Have

• Infrastructure as Code tooling including Terraform, Bicep, and ARM Templates
• Microsoft Defender Suite, Microsoft Sentinel, and Microsoft Purview exposure
• Virtualization across VMware and Hyper-V
• Vendor management and cloud cost optimization
• Microsoft certifications including AZ-, AZ-, AZ-, SC-, SC-, or CISSP
• Education in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Responsibilities

• Design scalable and secure cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure and hybrid infrastructure platforms
• Implement cloud security controls and harden Azure environments aligned with CIS benchmarks
• Administer Azure Entra identity and access management controls across cloud environments
• Support Microsoft security, compliance, and collaboration platform administration
• Develop automation frameworks and support CI/CD deployment initiatives
• Conduct security assessments, vulnerability reviews, and remediation planning activities
• Design and maintain cloud backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities
