Job description

G.S Lakie Middle School - English Language Arts & Social Studies - Grade 6

Temporary - 1.00FTE

The expected start date is August 25, 2026, and is anticipated to complete on December 18, 2026, or will be based upon the return of the incumbent.

The School

G.S. Lakie Middle School serves approximately 540 students and is located on the west side of Lethbridge. Lakie is proud to support its diverse learning community through inclusive educational opportunities for all students and families to access. The staff strives to provide a quality education in a caring environment so that students can become life-long learners and responsible, contributing members of an ever-changing society. In addition to supporting the development of students’ skills in Fine Arts and Athletics, Lakie is excited to be offering their growing Spanish Bilingual program for all grades 6 through 8. Our School Division, situated on the beautiful traditional lands of the Blackfoot people, is dedicated to growing, leading, and supporting our community through the values of learning, respect, leadership, well-being, and inclusion. The City of Lethbridge

Subjects

G.S. Lakie Middle School is seeking a Grade 6 English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher to join their team at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year! The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in supporting students, have an unwavering belief that every child is a capable learner and will:

  • Have an educational background in English Language Arts and Social Studies with a strong background in literacy;
  • Have previous experience teaching Middle School (preferred);
  • Be committed to strong collaboration, communication, and teamwork skills;
  • Have the ability to offer engaging, innovative lessons, and to differentiate to meet diverse learner needs and styles;
  • Have the ability to develop a genuine relationship with students and a willingness to connect with families;
  • Possess a passion and willingness to work with students outside of the classroom in an extra-curricular setting;
  • Have a commitment to ongoing professional development and professionalism;
  • Have a commitment to contributing to the school community.

Requirements

  • Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.

Conditions of Employment

In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School Division who are offered employment must provide:

  • A police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name can not be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
