Job description

Req ID:520552

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time Mechanical Calculation Engineer in St-Bruno, Quebec, Canada we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your structural design and mechanical analysis expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside innovative and collaborative teammates.

You'll play a vital role in ensuring the performance, safety, and compliance of critical components for passenger rail vehicles through advanced simulation and engineering analyses. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (structural integrity, supply chain, design, and project teams), contribute to risk assessments, and support qualification testing, and much more.

You’ll specifically take care of creating and validating finite element models of railway vehicle components, but also contribute to design reviews and provide engineering recommendations to optimize performance and manufacturability.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Defining qualification and validation plans in accordance with technical specifications and standards

  • Developing specifications for purchased components and collaborating with supply chain teams

  • Performing advanced mechanical analyses, including stress analysis, fatigue life prediction, buckling, etc.

  • Building the numerical models of the RS, ensuring the required level of quality

  • Performing crash simulations of collision scenarios, analyzing the results and proposing design improvements on crash devices and supporting structures

  • Performing calibration of numerical models from tests

  • Producing crash simulation reports

  • Reporting results and issues

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), with a focus on structural design and/or mechanical analysis

  • Membership in OIQ or CPI (or eligibility)

  • Strong knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and experience with tools such as Altair HyperWorks, ANSYS, or equivalent

  • Solid background in strength of materials and structural analysis methodologies

  • Experience in the transportation or railway industry is an asset

  • Structured, autonomous, and solution-oriented mindset

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including with external stakeholders

  • Team player with a proactive approach to learning and knowledge sharing

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a matrix and project-driven environment

  • Fluent in French with professional proficiency in English

Things you’ll enjoy Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines

  • Work with new security standards for rail signalling

  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues

  • Contribute to innovative projects

  • Utilise our flexible and inclusive working environment

  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning

  • Progress towards senior engineering or technical leadership roles

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension)

Proficiency in French and English is required. Knowledge of a third language is considered an asset when working with our international partners, suppliers, colleagues, and customers. In Quebec, French remains the primary working language of our company.

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
