2nd Engineer, Tanker

Our client is a leader in sustainable marine transportation dedicated to delivering bulk liquid cargo across key shipping routes that is seeking a qualified and safety-oriented Second Engineer to join their tanker operations. Our client recognizes that their maritime crew is the backbone of their operations and the driving force behind their ongoing industry leadership. The Second Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Engine Department personnel as well as the maintenance and safe operation of machinery, following the directions of the Chief Engineer. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, the Second Engineer ensures safe standards of operation across all departmental activities, adhering strictly to the Canada Shipping Act, Canada Labour Code, and established safety and environmental procedures.

Responsibilities
- Supervise the safe, efficient, and economical operation of the Engine Room Department, exercising authority over junior engineers and unlicensed crew while overseeing their ongoing training.
- Direct and oversee the upkeep, maintenance, and safe operation of all assigned machinery and equipment, including main propulsion systems, fuel/lubricant piping, purifiers, steering gear, hydraulic systems, CPP systems, oily water separators, and incinerators.
- Manage bunker purification to maintain adequate fuel supply for main and auxiliary machinery.
- Ensure proper pumping of machinery bilge spaces in compliance with Canadian Vessel Pollution Prevention and Dangerous Chemicals Regulations and MARPOL standards.
- Oversee testing, maintenance, and documentation of main engine jacket water chemical additives, as well as the collection and recording of regular lube oil samples.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of Engine Room stores and spare parts received, expanded, or on hand.
- Monitor and document all work performed within the Planned Maintenance System for engine room machinery, deck equipment, and isolated compartments.
- Carry out security duties as mandated by the Vessel Security Plan.

Qualifications
- Transport Canada Certification: Second-Class Engineer, Motor Ship (or higher) issued by Transport Canada (Certificates recognized under Transport Canada STCW reciprocal arrangements with Australia, Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, France, Georgia, Ireland, Jamaica, Norway, Panama, Philippines, UK, and Ukraine are also eligible).
- Medical & Safety: Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate, STCW Basic Safety, STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats, and STCW Advanced Fire Fighting. - ---- - Specialized Training: Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations, Propulsion Simulator – 2, and Shipboard Personnel with Designated Security Duties.
