Job description
Senior Operations Manager – Hands-On Global Supply Chain & Ocean Logistics

Brampton, ON (Hybrid — 1-day WFH / 4 days In-Office) Full-Time, Permanent

$120,000 – $135,000+ / year + Annual Performance Bonus 100% Employer-Paid Benefits + Half-Day Fridays All Summer + 3 Weeks' Vacation

Quick Role Summary
Are you a hands-on, execution-driven supply chain leader who thrives in the daily tactical details of ocean freight forwarding, reefer cold-chain logistics, and steamship line (SSL) carrier management?

We are partnering directly with an established, premier market leader in temperature-controlled global commodities based in their Peel industrial hub. Operating across major international trade corridors, our client manages a fast-paced, high-volume commercial shipping desk moving 300+ container shipments (TEUs) weekly. We are headhunting a hands-on Senior Operations Manager to sit directly with a team of 15 Logistics Coordinators, drive daily operational execution, and manage complex global ocean corridors.

Advantages
Compensation Package: $120,000 – $135,000+ Base Salary + Annual Performance Bonus.

Work-Life Balance: Hybrid schedule (1 day WFH / 4 days in-office) + Half-Day Fridays every summer.

Vacation: 3 Weeks paid vacation starting Day 1 (firm).

100% Employer-Paid Benefits: Premium health, dental, and vision coverage (zero payroll deductions) after 3 months.

Retirement Match: 4% RRSP matching program after 1 year.

Industry Stability: Recession-proof international food trading & supply chain infrastructure.

Responsibilities
In-The-Weeds Team Leadership: Sit directly on the floor to direct, mentor, and drive daily operational accountability for a fast-paced team of 15 Logistics Coordinators executing 300+ ocean container shipments per week.

Tactical Problem Solving & Workflow Execution: Roll up your sleeves daily to troubleshoot real-time shipping delays, resolve drayage bottlenecks, manage customs documentation holds, and keep container flows moving efficiently.

Foreign-to-Foreign (Crosstrade) Corridors: Oversee complex global ocean freight corridors, managing hands-on documentation (Bills of Lading, Phytosanitary Certificates), compliance, and port-to-port routing for shipments that do not transit through Canadian ports.

Cold-Chain & Reefer Operations: Take full daily accountability for temperature-controlled logistics (ocean reefers) for perishable food commodities, safeguarding cargo integrity and temperature compliance from origin to destination.

Direct Carrier & SSL Negotiations: Lead high-level ocean contract and freight rate negotiations directly with major Steamship Lines (SSLs) like Maersk, MSC, and Hapag-Lloyd to secure space allocations, competitive rates, and active detention/demurrage free-time extensions.

Financial & Claims Governance: Oversee logistics spend, manage global RFQ/tender processes, and decisively resolve high-value marine cargo insurance claims.

Qualifications
Experience: 8–10+ years in hands-on international freight forwarding, maritime logistics, or global supply chain management within a fast-paced environment.

Leadership Style: 5+ years supervising or managing logistics teams with a "lead-from-the-front" mindset—someone who thrives in daily execution rather than high-level consulting.

Volume Capability: Proven experience managing high-volume operations executing 300+ TEUs/containers weekly.

Cold-Chain Expertise: Direct experience handling temperature-controlled (reefer) ocean cargo, food safety standards, and perishable commodities.

SSL & Carrier Management: Proven track record negotiating directly with ocean carriers, managing freight tenders, and actively mitigating demurrage/detention costs at the operational level.

Cross trade & Trade Compliance: Expert knowledge of foreign-to-foreign shipping documentation and customs clearance.

Tech Stack: High proficiency in ERP/TMS systems (SAP TM, S/4HANA), WMS platforms, and advanced Excel.

Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business Administration. Professional certifications (CSCP, CCLP, P.Log) are strong assets.
