Job description
The Opportunity: Reporting to the on-site FSQA Manager, the FSQA Supervisor / HACCP Specialist supports Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs at our Guelph Speedvale facility, providing day-to-day leadership to FSQA team members and maintaining ownership of HACCP, prerequisite, food safety, and quality systems.

Working with production, sanitation, maintenance, regulatory partners, and site leadership, this role helps ensure programs are executed consistently, records are maintained, audit readiness is supported, and food safety or quality concerns are resolved effectively.

Compensation: $62,000 - $91,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive

The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours.In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf's annual short-term incentive plan.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life: Team Leadership & Coverage

Supervise QA Technicians, QA Coordinators, or other assigned FSQA team members to ensure tasks are completed consistently, efficiently, and in alignment with production and food safety requirements.

Plan QA staffing and coverage requirements according to production schedules, business needs, and department priorities.

Provide coaching, guidance, and values-based leadership to support team engagement, accountability, technical capability, and service orientation.

Support employee training, onboarding, and performance follow-up related to FSQA programs, HACCP monitoring, GMP expectations, and facility procedures.

Provide on-site FSQA leadership during start-up and other critical operating periods to support timely review, escalation, and resolution of quality or food safety concerns.

Serve as a functional back-up for the FSQA Manager and support crisis management or recall activities when required.

HACCP & Program Ownership

Maintain, update, verify, and support consistent execution of HACCP, prerequisite, food safety, and quality programs.

Ensure programs remain current with applicable regulatory, CFIA, BRCGS, customer, business unit, Maple Leaf Foods, and internal facility requirements.

Lead annual HACCP and prerequisite program reassessments, including follow-up actions, document updates, and communication of changes.

Lead traceability exercises and support HACCP-related decision-making, documentation, verification activities, and stakeholder communication.

Lead or support HACCP meetings, monthly food safety meetings, GMP communication, food safety scorecard updates, and related program reviews.

Maintain FSQA documentation systems and support controlled document practices required for audit readiness.

Audit, Compliance & Sanitation Support

Assist with third-party, customer, internal, CFIA, SIP/CVS, HACCP, BRCGS, FSQMS, and other audits as required.

Prepare, support, and coach cross-functional managers and team members before and during audits to ensure readiness and alignment with facility programs.

Conduct monthly GMP, internal, external, SIP/CVS, and other assigned audits with cross-functional partners and identify opportunities for improvement.

Work with CFIA Inspectors and site stakeholders to complete regulatory tasks and ensure corrective actions are completed effectively and on time.

Maintain audit readiness by ensuring SOPs, forms, records, trackers, and related documents are current, controlled, accessible, and properly communicated.

Support sanitation verification activities and related food safety requirements.

Investigations, Corrective Actions & Continuous Improvement

Lead or support cross-functional investigations where food safety, food quality, regulatory compliance, or customer expectations may be impacted.

Support root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action development, effectiveness verification, and timely closure of deviations, audit findings, and complaint follow-ups.

Maintain corrective action trackers and monitor progress to keep improvement actions visible, active, and on track.

Analyze FSQA data, trends, deviations, scorecards, complaints, and audit results to identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities.

Lead or participate in initiatives that improve product safety, quality, process control, compliance performance, and operational consistency.

Training, Documentation & Change Management

Participate in cross-functional SOP development and ensure facility documents are accurate, current, properly stored, and communicated to required users.

Conduct or coordinate annual, new hire, and refresher training related to CCP monitoring, HACCP procedures, GMP requirements, food safety programs, and other FSQA SOPs.

Support change management activities related to new or revised processes, programs, equipment, systems, documentation, and food safety controls.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement through coaching, training, communication, and practical problem solving with hourly and salaried team members.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the FSQA department and facility objectives.

What You'll Bring:

Post-secondary education in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Quality Assurance, or a related discipline.

3 to 5 years of experience in food manufacturing, quality assurance, food safety, HACCP, or a related environment.

Strong working knowledge of HACCP principles, prerequisite programs, GMPs, food safety systems, and regulatory expectations.

Experience supporting audits, corrective actions, investigations, documentation control, and continuous improvement activities.

Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop team members in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Strong communication, organization, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with SAP, SharePoint, or food safety documentation systems is an asset.

Ability to work collaboratively across functions and adapt to changing production, audit, and operational priorities.
