LEAD, AR TIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE STRATEGIC PRIORITY IMPLEMENTATION (TERM - 3 Years) (Hybrid – Primary Remote, Ottawa, ON)

CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA A strategic priority in t he CMPA ’ s upcoming 202 7 - 2029 S trategic P lan is to transform the CMPA into a trusted, AI-enabled partner to its Canadian physician members, using secure, governed, human-centre d AI to strengthen the human connection that defines our service model and to deliver more proactive, personalized and consistent medico-legal intelligence and support. To deliver this priority, we envision three pillars of work – 1) building up our processes around governance of technology and AI in order to ensure we remain a trusted and c redible organization, 2) ensu ring our technologies are robust, secure and AI-ready so that we have the foundation to deliver not only on our ongoing operations, but also on the trans formations our strategy will require, 3) new capabilities to bring AI technologies into our day-to-day work – increasing productivity and staff engagement, as well as opening new member services, such as the proactive prevention of medico-legal events, in order to increase member rele vance.

POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Executive Director, Technology, Analytics & Privacy (TAP), the Lead, Strategic Priority Implementation plays a key leadership role as the program-level owner responsible for orchestrating, managing and integrating a portfolio of initiatives (some large and complex) required to advance the Strategic Plan and the AI Strategic Priority.

The incumbent has overall performance responsibility for managing project scope, cost, schedule, and deliverables, including the application of project management methodologies. This involves implementing project management frameworks and developing resource requirements; chairing project meetings; monitoring and resolving project-related issues; executing regular project team reviews; coordinating project specific training for project team members; establishing project timelines and overseeing project team deliverables; providing project briefings, and relevant recommendations. This includes overseeing outside consultants and experts to support these projects.

The Lead will be responsible for effectively leveraging internal and external resources. They will promote project stakeholder satisfaction by establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with project team members, key Directors and all departments involved in the project.

POSITION ACTIVITIES Planning:

Collaborate with the TAP Leadership Team and key business leaders to define the vision, outcomes, and scope of the Technology Revitalization / AI program, including major workstreams and success measures. Responsible for setting and maintaining the overall direction of the program, while individual projects are led by designated project managers and product owners.

Oversee and provide subject matter expertise in areas including project scope definition, risk identification, project methodology, resource allocation, facilitation, and other areas of expertise based on established project management techniques.

Coordinate and/or develop program‑specific governance mechanisms (e.g., steering committee cadence, decision rights, escalation paths, integrated communication and change strategies) leveraging CMPA’s enterprise and IT governance frameworks.

Develop and documents program and project charters, project plans, work plans (including internal and external dependencies), and resource and time estimates for specific projects related to ensuring TAP is organized and able to deliver on its Strategic Priority commitments.

Prepare risk management plans and actively monitors and manages risks throughout the project.

Effectively refine and manage the scope of the project as appropriate.

Communication and Change Champion

Support the Executive Director with portfolio-wide communications.

Communicate strategic initiatives through tailored employee communications.

Identifies impacts of strategic initiatives on people and processes within the portfolio.

Identifies opportunities to strengthen strategic planning and execution processes.

Supports change initiatives required to deliver on strategic priorities.

Execution:

Ensure the execution of work plans, communication plans, change management plans, and training strategies.

Facilitate risk management and issue resolution, performs regular quality assurance checks on deliverables.

Provide guidance and leadership, and oversee the progress of the project with the objective of achieving the project goal. Informs and consults the Executive Director as required.

Manage and monitor the overall program budget and timeline, in partnership with IT Planning & Governance and Finance; oversee program‑level dependencies and coordinate various streams of work across TAP and business areas to ensure alignment with the Strategic Plan and AI outcomes.

Effectively lead and manage internal and external project resources across organizational lines. Negotiate assignment of critical resources and delegate responsibilities/tasks. Empower project team members and remove obstacles/barriers in order to ensure timely delivery of objectives.

Prepare materials (e.g. agenda, status reports, milestone reports, decision logs, etc.) and chair project meetings. Ensure all project management‑related documentation is complete.

Provide regular updates to project team members, management, Executive Leadership Team, internal and external stakeholders, and project sponsors as applicable.

Ensure proper project risk and issues management by identifying, documenting, and employing effective mitigation strategies.

Project Transition:

Coordinate post-implementation evaluation activities, including lessons learned.

Prepare close-out reports and reviews all project documentation and coordinates its completion.

In collaboration with management, determine the vision for the evolution of the portfolio and how it supports the organization.

Collaboration & Enterprise- Wide integration:

Build strong relationships within the TAP portfolio and across the organization, acting as the primary integration point for the Strategic Priority (AI).

Responsible for understanding the goals, objectives and plans of the rest of the organization, and for ensuring that the AI Strategic Priority advances these goals, while maintaining focus on the AI Strategic Priority outcomes.

Establish and chair cross‑functional forums or represent the TAP group in similar forums to ensure an integrated, enterprise-wide approach.

Manage dependencies and sequencing across initiatives, in collaboration with the Manager IT Planning & Governance.

Surface, mediate, facilitate and accelerate conflicting priorities across TAP and key stakeholders, working towards shared ownership of outcomes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Four-year bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study (i.e. Engineering, Business Administration, etc.).

Designation or certification in Project Management or Process Improvement (e.g. PMP, Six Sigma, etc.) or ability to work toward meeting Project Management qualification requirements will be considered.

Sound knowledge of project management methodologies and frameworks.

Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience, including 5 years related to successful delivery of enterprise-wide programs or portfolios with multiple concurrent projects.

Experience managing projects involving cross-functional groups including planning, coordination, risk mitigation, and successful project delivery.

Experience successfully leading technology transformation projects.

Experience developing and maintaining strong working relationships both internally and externally.

Strong change management and facilitation skills developed on a significant project or within a complex organization.

Expert understanding of key business processes.

Bilingualism (English / French) is an asset.

POSTING DETAILS

Job Type: This is a Term Full-Time opportunity for approximately 3 years. Includes paid time off and health/dental benefits.

This posting is for an existing vacancy and closes on August 27th, 2026 at 4:00pm EST.

Salary Range: $118,000 to $157,800 – this role is classified as level 10.

Location: Hybrid – Primary Remote Job. You can work from a home-based office the majority of the time within the provinces of Ontario and Québec, with regular on-site presence at the CMPA office (1-2 days per week). If you prefer, you can choose to work out of the CMPA office in Ottawa, Ontario near the beautiful Dow’s Lake. This position cannot be performed fully remotely.
