The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Fleet, Supply, and Weapons Services Bureau is seeking a qualified individual to join our Weapons Services Unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide control of inventories and assets including shipping, receiving, monitoring stock levels, processing orders and documents and the destruction of OPP use of force equipment and other surrendered/seized protected items from detachments.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 6,400 uniformed officers, 2,900 civilian employees and 530 Auxiliary officers. Fleet, Supply and Weapons Services Bureau (FSWSB), through a commitment to customer service, ensures that the OPP is equipped to meet its public safety mandate in an increasingly complex and challenging policing environment. The Bureau is comprised of highly skilled personnel from diverse backgrounds that work cooperatively with customers and stakeholders to research, develop and deliver equipment to position the OPP as a leader in modern policing. The Bureau Commander reports directly to the Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Safety and Operational Support and is made up of the following sections:

About the job What can I expect to do in this role?

To provide control of inventories and assets including shipping, receiving, monitoring stock levels, processing orders and documents and the destruction of OPP use of force equipment and other surrendered/seized protected items from detachments.

What you bring to the team Mandatory Requirements

Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.

Ability to pass annual Firearms Safety training.

Ability to pass an RCMP Firearms Verifiers course.

Ability to pass a psychological assessment.

Ability to obtain an Equipment operator's permit to operate - counterbalance, reach truck (forklift) and scissor lift.

Ability to lift 70 pounds/31.8 kgs and team lift up to 150 pounds/68.2 kgs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of shipping, receiving, warehousing procedures and practices to receive and store inventories and distribute stock and equipment. Knowledge of equipment/stock tracking and inventory control and related databases software to input, update and maintain inventories and to send and receive emails.

Knowledge of Firearms Act, safe-handling rules and procedures, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act to ensure necessary precautions are taken in the handling and storage of weapons, ammunition, chemicals and solvents.

Knowledge of weapons control related to the distribution and disposal of firearms and other weapons and accessories to support the OPP and other areas of the government and ministry and for supplies/equipment used in the section.

Knowledge of and skill in keyboarding, computer operation and software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel to produce documents, type letters, memorandum, correspondence, spreadsheets and transmit and receive e-mail.

Knowledge of software applications used for inventory management to input and maintain computerized inventory systems.

Knowledge of OPP organizational structure to facilitate the delivery of orders and contact of personnel.

Mechanical knowledge of small office and warehouse equipment to operate a forklift, tow motor and pallet jack.

Knowledge of First Aid.
