Job description
Term of App't: January – April 2027 (96 hours total)Start date: December 2026 (to allow for prep prior to the start of classes)Reporting to: Dean, AcademicsSalary:$50.07 – $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% on all regular earnings in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay day. Employees in this division have the opportunity to enroll in the College Pension Plan, with contributions matched by the Employer. Description:NLC requires one sessional online instructor to teach the section as indicated below – with course delivery taking place using MS Office Teams. CRIM 230: Criminal Law - This course will introduce the student to the basic principles of Canadian criminal law, the concepts of actus reus, mens rea, regulatory offences, modes of participation in crime, inchoate crimes, mental disorder as a defense, and defenses to a criminal charge.Qualifications:Required:JD/LLB (or NCA certificate of qualification);Current or former membership in good standing with the Law Society of BC or another Canadian law society.Excellent written and verbal communication skillsCommitted to student motivation and success; and theAbility to collaborate as an effective team member.Preference will be given to those who also have:LLM in a relevant specialization and/or criminal law practice experience (Crown, defense, or both)The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential.Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary environment;Experience using learning management systems (LMS) and teaching through multiple delivery modalities, andExperience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.We thank all applicants for their interest in employment with NLC; however, only those contacted for an interview will be acknowledged.To support employment equity and diversity in the workplace, we encourage all qualified applicants, including Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, women, persons of diverse sexual orientation, gender identity or expression (LGBTQ2S+), and others who may contribute to diversity at Northern Lights College.In the spirit of reconciliation, we are committed to increasing Indigenous Peoples' representation throughout the institution and encourage applicants to self-identify as Indigenous--First Nation, Metis, or Inuit within cover letters and/or resume.
