Job description
Junior School Inclusive Education Teacher (Primary) 1.0 FTE (full-time) September 2026 - June 2027 Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School (KGMS) is an Independent, co-educational K-12 school. One of a few dedicated Inclusive Education Schools in BC, KGMS draws students from across the Lower Mainland. We follow the BC adapting and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of neurodiverse learners. Using Universal Design for Learning principles, KGMS incorporates Experiential Learning, Inquiry, and Social-Emotional Learning to deliver a comprehensive educational experience. KGMS is seeking a warm and energetic Early Primary Teacher to lead a Reggio-inspired program for a small group of students. This individual will foster a supportive and engaging learning environment where every student thrives academically, socially, and emotionally. Our students are bright and capable, with diverse learning needs which may include students who have physical, socio-emotional, health, or sensory needs in addition to learning strengths and stretches. The Teacher will work with a multidisciplinary, collaborative team to develop and implement responsive Individualized Educational Plans and report on student learning throughout the year. This educator has a passion for early childhood education and play-based learning, embraces KGMS philosophy and policies, the B.C. Early Learning Framework, and related provincial regulations to maintain a standard of care that contributes to our school's reputation for excellence. They will be responsible for developing and implementing daily activities that support and promote the social and academic development of children through joy and discovery. The Teacher will collaborate with the KGMS multi-disciplinary team to develop and facilitate IEP's that support student self-regulation and skill development, as well as front-load, reinforce and extend academic and social learning. The ideal candidate will be patient, empathetic, flexible, and possess a genuine passion for working with neurodiverse learners. As a KGMS educator, the successful candidate will contribute to the warm and nurturing culture of the school and ensure that all students experience success and belonging within our community. Reporting to the Principal, this is a full-time position that continues through the end of the 2026–2027 school year. Opportunities for ongoing employment may be available following the completion of the initial term. Qualifications: Must be a current Canadian resident, legally entitled to work in Canada Clear BC Vulnerable Sector / Criminal Record Check Proven knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework and Inclusion Practices Successful demonstrated experience in adapting materials for enrichment and meeting universal, targeted and intensive supports to empower learners Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate an IEP in consultation with the school team, parents and caregivers, students and community resource personnel Brings different perspectives, voices, and worldviews to the classroom learning experience, including those of Indigenous, local, and global populations Knowledge of culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices Knowledge of student regulation and management strategies Knowledge and use of Seesaw, Google Workspace, MySchool and other educational technologies is an asset Knowledge and familiarity with Assistive Communication Devices is an asset Valid Early Childhood Education certificate - Educator - is an asset set Ability to engage in land-based education and out trips of mild to moderate physical intensity Fluent communication skills in English, both oral and written, with students, colleagues, families, caregivers, and external service providers Strong organizational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills Salary and benefits are paid as per the BCGEU collective agreement.
